Job summary
We
are looking for an individual to fill this six month locum post within the
Ophthalmology Department at St Jamess University Hospital.
This
post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Medical Retina team. This post is based
at St James Hospital but may include working at other LTHT sites when required.
The
successful applicant should possess accreditation in Ophthalmology by the Royal
College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth)
or equivalent. Senior level experience in Medical Retina will be required. If
needed, provision for support to attain CESR qualification can be discussed and
arranged.
Applicants
should have established skills in Ophthalmology. Excellent communication and
team working skills, and a strong commitment to teaching and service
development are essential. A strong
commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is desirable.
Consideration
will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those
wishing to job share.

Main duties of the job
This
is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Ophthalmologist, with special
interests in Medical Retina.
This
post will deliver 10PAs supporting the Medical Retina team.
The
post will be based at St Jamess Hospital, with clinics also held at Seacroft
and Wharfedale Hospital.
To
deliver care to patients with Medical Retina Conditions, as well as General
Ophthalmology/Emergencies:
Out-patient clinics
Supervision of patients
Contribute to Specialist
Multi-disciplinary team meetings
To
link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within
the department and across the Trust.
To
contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within the department.
The
post-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching
programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised
on a speciality or clinical area basis.
The
post-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver
appropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with
the NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds.
The
appointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teaching
of postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in Ophthalmology in
the Local Education and Training Board.

The team also trains Ophthalmic specialist trainees from the region as well as
recruiting 5 Trust Doctors across various sub-specialties.
