Job summary
We
are inviting applications for our Fellow vacancy (Trust Doctor) at The Leeds
Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Ophthalmology. Applications
are welcomed for this post, which could be held as either full time or part
time. This position would suit a senior higher surgical trainee or post-CCT
doctor who has to demonstrable interest in Corneal & Refractive surgery.
Competence in cataract surgery and the ability to supervise junior colleagues
is expected.
The
post is available from mid August 2026 and will be for a maximum of 12 months.
Main duties of the job
Out-patient clinics, Corneal and
cataract operating sessions and therapeutic and refractive laser theatre
Supervision of patients
Contribute to Specialist
Multi-disciplinary team meetings
Referrals to other specialists,
departments and hospitals are timely and appropriate
To link with Consultant colleagues in
other relevant site specialist teams within the Trust
To contribute to research, teaching
and new developments within the Ophthalmology department. The post holder will
be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research
programs on going in the department.
In addition to the clinical skills,
the post holder will be actively involved in research and publication.
The post holder will also be expected
to develop a deeper understanding of management issues within Teaching Hospital
Departments and the wider Trust.
The post holder will assist in
providing service alongside the consultant team, this will include clinics,
theatre sessions and Acute Referral Clinic
About us
The
Eye Department is based at St James University Hospital, Leeds with
Ophthalmology Services also held at Seacroft Hospital and Wharfedale Hospital.
There are 29 consultants in the wider Ophthalmology Department. The team also
trains Ophthalmic specialist trainees from the region. We have recently moved
into a new outpatient department which has provided us which much more space
for patients and clinicians.

the assessment, diagnosis and management of Corneal & refractive patients.
There will also be opportunities to be involved in the departments clinical
