is a 10 PA appointment for a Specialist Grade in Emergency General Surgery.
This post will be available from
immediately.
This
post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Emergency General Surgery Service in
Leeds teaching hospitals, with the post being based at St James Hospital. This
is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that manages acute surgical
patients. This is via outpatient clinics, our ambulatory surgical centre, PCAL
telephone triage and operating theatre lists.
Applicants
should have completed a minimum of 12 years medical/surgical work, (continuous
or in aggregate), since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a
minimum of 6 years should have been in a relevant speciality in the SpD (or
equivalent). You must also meet the
criteria set out in the Specialist generic capabilities framework.

Main duties of the job
The
successful candidate will join our existing team of 8 substantive Consultants
led by Mr Adam Peckham Cooper, the clinical lead. As a unit we have worked hard
to develop an exciting, challenging and fulfilling clinical job but within the
job plan design there is significant flexibility available for variable working
patterns, and secondary interests including academia, management/leadership and
the development of aligned elective interests. Applicants with interests in
upper GI, colorectal and hepatobiliary surgery are welcomed. The post will
start as 10 PAs but may also suit those wishing to seek more flexible working
patterns or hybrid careers.
The posts are available immediately and will be based
at St Jamess University Hospital. Successful applicants will be responsible
for delivering all aspects of acute and unplanned general surgical care to
adults, admitted to the trust. We have a number of unique and bespoke pathways
to manage this patient cohort including a dedicated Ambulatory Surgical Centre,
a separate Surgical Assessment Unit, rapid access theatre lists and associated
follow up clinics and remain at the forefront of modern units delivering sub
specialist emergency surgical care in the country.

and surrounding areas.
2.2 To make a significant contribution to the
development, design, improvement, and delivery of the Acute Surgical Services
in Leeds and surrounding areas, through clinical leadership and collaboration
with other key stakeholders.
2.3 To contribute to research, teaching and
new developments within Emergency General Surgery in Leeds. The post holder
will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical
research programs ongoing in the department
2.4 To support doctors in training within the
department with respect to educational supervision and appraisal and to
contribute to undergraduate teaching of students from the University of Leeds.

mentorship and training and teaching is a core element of the units mandate.

its core services, recognising the importance of local and national standards,
in particular delivery of CQC standards, the 4-hour Emergency Care Standard,
