The closing date is 17 November 2025

Job summary

Applications are invited for two Registrar (ST3+)-level Trust Doctor positions within the Specialty and Integrated Medicine Clinical Service Unit at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The posts, which are available for immediate start and fixed-term until 31st March 2026, are ideally suited to a resident doctor who has completed Internal Medicine Training (or equivalent).

The successful applicants will work alongside a team of five Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine consultants who provide a Surgical Liaison service across three Orthopaedic wards at Leeds General Infirmary. They will help to deliver high quality perioperative medicine for elderly patients admitted with neck of femur and other fragility fractures, in addition to providing medical care to younger adults presenting with a wide variety of conditions. Excellent clinical training will therefore be provided in the management of acutely unwell and deteriorating individuals, Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, rehabilitation, multidisciplinary teamworking, and discharge planning.

As well as delivering direct clinical care, the postholders will be expected to provide advice and guidance to Foundation Year 1 and 2 resident doctors undertaking placements in Orthopaedics and Orthogeriatrics. They will also help to develop, and contribute to, our active weekly teaching programme.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will contribute to all aspects of Surgical Liaison service. We expect a particular focus on:

Good clinical care;

Maintaining good medical practice;

Good relationships and communication with patients;

Good working relationships with colleagues;

Good teaching and training;

Professional behaviour and probity.

The ideal applicants for this position will therefore be able to demonstrate excellent clinical, interpersonal and communication skills. They will be able to work cooperatively with colleagues across our multidisciplinary teams, managing their time effectively. The successful applicants will be committed to providing expert medical care, including discharge planning, in patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

Opportunities will be provided for education and continuing professional development each week.

The postholder will not be asked to contribute to an out-of-hours rota.
