Locum
Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with sub-speciality expertise in Cystic
Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis.This
post will be available for a period of 6 months.We
are seeking a dynamic Locum Respiratory Consultant to join the Leeds Cystic
Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis & PCD Specialist services at St James University
Hospital. The appointees will become a key member of a dedicated and highly
experienced multi-disciplinary team. This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis &
PCD Team with supervision of the junior doctors and specialist nurses. There
will be an on-call commitment to cover the Cystic Fibrosis rota on a 1:4
basis.
The
department of Respiratory Medicine has undergone significant modernisation
over recent years and remains a centre for clinical and educational
excellence. Inpatient services are provided in Gledhow Wing at St Jamess
Hospital. This includes three Respiratory wards, an NIV / Weaning unit, a
dedicated CF ward, a procedures room, Sleep services and a Nurse-led day
unit.
The
post will be based at St Jamess Hospital with outpatient responsibilities at
Seacroft Hospital. The unit has a strong commitment to both undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching and research.
Main duties of the job
The
successful applicant should hold accreditation in Respiratory Medicine in the
Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist
Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if
currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have
been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants
should have established skills in Respiratory Medicine and its related
specialties including Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis & PCD. A strong
commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest
is desirable.
Excellent
communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and
service development are essential.

15 whole time equivalent
consultant respiratory physicians provide a cross-city inpatient and
outpatient service. Current
sub-specialty interests among the physicians include lung cancer, pleural
disease, interstitial lung disease, difficult asthma, tuberculosis, sleep
disordered breathing & non-invasive ventilation, cystic fibrosis,
bronchiectasis, PCD, COPD and alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency.
Cystic
Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis & PCD Service
The
Leeds Adult CF Unit cover a large geographical area across all of the West,
North and East Yorkshire out to the North Sea coast. Our aim is to provide accessible excellent,
specialist care to enable adults and young people with CF to maintain the
best possible health and participate as fully as possible in normal
activities and aspirations, including school, university, college, sports and
work.
In
2007 Leeds became the first CF unit to successfully implement full electronic
patient records, which has significantly improved quality of care. The team
compromises of 3 Consultants, Associate Specialist, Research & Clinical
Fellows, Specialist Nurses, Specialist Physiotherapists, Specialist
dieticians, Specialist Pharmacists, Social Work & Psychology.
The
Leeds Bronchiectasis service was set up in 1998 and provides secondary and
tertiary care for people with bronchiectasis living in Leeds and west
Yorkshire region.
The
Adult CF & Bronchiectasis Unit has experienced & established home IV
Service supported by a team of four full-time experienced CFNS and a
full-time support worker. The Leeds Unit has a well-established clinical
research programme and is an accredited site for the European Cystic Fibrosis
Clinical Trial Network and the CF Trust Accelerator Platform.
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
The
successful candidate would join the other 3 consultants in the team. They are
expected to work closely with the current multidisciplinary team to sustain
current capacity of CF, Bronchiectasis & PCD services with a view to

- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
