Locum Consultant in Colorectal Surgery

Job summary
The Colorectal Surgery Department is looking to appoint into a 6 month locum consultant post available from September 2025.
The successful candidate will join the Colorectal Surgical team which currently has 12 substantive consultants. The post-holder(s) will provide Colorectal and General surgical services in theatre, outpatient and ward settings. There will be a requirement to take part in the departmental on-call rota. There are exciting opportunities to contribute to teaching / education programmes and research projects.
The post will be based at St Jamess University Teaching Hospital.
The successful applicant(s) should possess FRCS (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Main duties of the job
This post will initially be a 10 PA contract and the successful applicant will join the other 12 substantive consultants (8 NHS and 4 Academic) providing colorectal surgery at LTHT. The job will consist of specialist colorectal and general surgery, ward rounds, surgical outpatient clinics and day case / inpatient elective operating. Regular colonoscopy lists are also available for individuals who have an interest. There are separate Colorectal and UGI/HPB on call rotas and it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the colorectal aspect, most likely on a 1 in 10 basis. There will be exciting opportunities to engage with research and education in the colorectal unit and on a wider regional basis especially with respect to intestinal failure. The role of each Consultant in the department is intended to be as an equal senior to other Consultants in the Department and in the Trust.
