Locum Consultant Radiologist with Interest in GIHPB

Job summary

This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Radiologist, with special interests in GIHPB. This post will be available from October 2025 for a period of 12 months.

This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the GIHPB Radiology team (Dr Joshua Bell, Dr Raneem Albazaz, Dr Rachel Allard, Dr Ruth England, Dr Rachel Hyland, Dr Thomas Kaye, Dr Hannah Lambie, Dr Adam Laverty, Dr Claire Smith, Dr Elen Thomson & Dr Damian Tolan).

The post will be based at SJUH.

The successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCR in the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in GIHPB Radiology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job

This fixed term replacement post in GIHPB radiology is required to meet increasing demand on the GIHPB and Acute Radiology services following recent departures. The post will help fill gaps in the service due to loss of DCC from the existing consultant workforce and to increase cold reporting capacity, improve provision of acute services and support the regional tertiary level GIHPB cancer MDTs. It is desirable for prospective applicants to have a sub-specialty interest in HPB radiology.

About us

The LTHT radiology department is one of the largest in Europe and has an established reputation for clinical innovation and expertise along with a significant teaching and research profile. The department contains one of three national radiology training academies with associated educational facilities and resources for the Leeds Bradford Radiology training scheme. In terms of research the department has helped establish a NIHR funded research 3T MRI as part of the Leeds Biomedical Research Unit contained on trust premises. Within this unit imaging plays a large part in most musculoskeletal projects along with performance of separate radiology specific research.

Recently the department has also been successful in obtaining funding for developing and establishing an academic programme focusing on oncology radiology led by a Professor of Radiology.

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in diagnostic GI/HPB radiology including regular experience of HPB cancer MDTs at a tertiary referral level.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.

  • Experience in reporting CTC
  • Evidence of experience in non-vascular interventional procedures (US and CT guided drains and biopsies)
  • Evidence of experience in diagnostic GI fluoroscopy
  • Evidence of experience in diagnostic ultrasound including doppler and liver transplant assessment
  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
