Job summary
This
is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Paediatric General Surgery Consultant, with
special interests in Colorectal. This post will be available from August 2025
for a period of 6 months.
This
post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Paediatric General Surgical team (Mr
Sutcliffe and Mr Parsons)
The
post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.
The
successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCS (Paediatric surgery) or
equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of
being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training
programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the
Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants
should have established skills in Paediatric surgery. Excellent communication and team working
skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
2.1 To deliver care to patients with at the
Leeds Childrens Hospital at Leeds General Infirmary
Out-patient clinics in Leeds
Childrens Hospital
?? Outreach out-patient clinics in
Airedale General Hospital and St Lukes Hospital in Bradford
Supervision of patients
Care of in-patients
Joint care of gastroenterology and
colorectal patients
Contribute to Specialist
Multi-disciplinary team meetings
Participate in multi-disciplinary
teamwork with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physicians and Surgeons.
Theatre sessions
2.2 To link with Consultant colleagues in
other relevant site specialist teams within the Childrens Hospital and across
the Trust.
2.3 To work with colleagues in General
Paediatric Surgery to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 9) This includes
both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working
hours.
2.4 To contribute to research, teaching, and
new developments within the service. The post holder will be encouraged to
facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in
the department.

- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in paed surg and relevant sub specialty.
- Specifically, he/she/they must demonstrate higher training in paediatric Colorectal Surgery.
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
Desirable
- Additional training/Fellowship in paediatric Colorectal Surgery.
- Previous consultant level experience
- Knowledge, experience and evidence of multidisciplinary team working within colorectal paediatric surgery
- Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
- Publication, presentation or research relevant to colorectal paediatric surgery
