Job summary
This
is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Locum Consultant working within the Plastic
Surgery department. This post will be available for a period of 6 months
renewable.
Applicants
should have established skills in general plastic surgery including
microvascular and hand and surgery both elective and trauma. Excellent
communication and team working skills and a strong commitment to teaching and
service development are essential.
Consideration
will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those
wishing to job share.

Main duties of the job
The
Plastic Surgery Department is contained in Clarendon Wing at the Leeds General
Infirmary. The Plastic Surgery Unit has 18 adult beds, access to paediatric
wards and 4 beds on our dedicated High Dependency Unit. A daily dressing clinic
with a separate Sister and staff also operates within the Unit.
The Plastic
Surgery service has a dedicated Hand Unit, with three operating tables, its own
staff and facilities. Incorporated into the unit is its own outpatient Hand
Clinic, with a highly experienced on-site specialist Hand Therapy team
(Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy), supported by an in-house dressing
care team. This Specialist Unit offers a high standard and quality of care.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals is the UK centre for Hand and Upper Limb Transplant.

Essential
- FRCS(Plast) or equivalent qualification.
- Should have completed a recognised training programme in Plastic Surgery
- Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable
Experience

- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Adult Hand Surgery.
- Specifically, must demonstrate higher surgical training in microvascular reconstruction.
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following:
- passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider
- having a GCSE, A level, Scottish National Qualification level 4 or 5, Scottish Higher or Advanced Higher in English, gained through study at a UK school that you began when you were under 18
- having a degree-level academic qualification that was taught in English - if you studied abroad, youll need to apply through Ecctis (formerly UK NARIC) for confirmation that your qualification is equivalent to a UK bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD
- You do not need to prove your knowledge of English if youve already passed an English Language assessment that is accepted by the relevant regulated professional body.
