We
are inviting applications for our Oculoplastics Fellowship at The Leeds
Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Ophthalmology. Applications are
welcomed for this post, which is full time, however part time applicants may
be considered. This position would suit a doctor who has demonstrable
interest in Oculoplastics with prior training in higher specialty
Oculoplastics surgery. Competence in cataract surgery is desirable but not
essential.
The
post will be for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months.
Candidates
must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license
to practice at the time of appointment.

Main duties of the job
DUTIES
OF THE POST
To
deliver a wide range of Ophthalmology care and sub speciality care for adult
patients, at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Ensure
provision of a high standard of care to patients in operating theatre,
inpatients, day cases and outpatients for both acute and elective conditions
Accept
and manage acute referrals from other specialists, departments and hospitals
in a timely and appropriate manner
Make
referrals to other specialists, departments and hospitals in a timely and
appropriate manner
Contribute
to departmental meetings
Contribute
to quality improvement, research, teaching and new developments within the
Ophthalmology department.
The
post holder will spend up to 12 months working in the Ophthalmology
Department in SJUH.
The
post holder may be expected to cover on-call duties and will also see
casualty and general ophthalmology patients.
The
objectives for the year would be to further train the post holder in
Oculoplastics ophthalmology.
By
the end of the 12 months, the post holder would be expected to be confident
in the medical and surgical management of Oculoplastics conditions.
The
post holder will also be expected to develop a deeper understanding of
management issues within Teaching Hospital Departments and the wider Trust.
About us
The
Leeds Teaching Hospitals provide ophthalmic care to the local population of
approximately 780,000 in Leeds and a regional population of up to 5.4 million
in surrounding areas of West Yorkshire. The trust operates seven hospitals
across five sites, including St James's University Hospital and Leeds General
Infirmary.
The
oculoplastics department in Leeds is predominantly based at St Jamess
University hospital (SJUH). Surgery and Acute Services take place at St James
Hospital, the General Infirmary at Leeds and Wharfedale hospital. We also offer
a joint thyroid/endocrine outpatient services in Beckett Wing, SJUH Hospital.
We perform a wide range of surgery including collaboration with the
maxillofacial, Mohs, ENT and neurointervention teams.

appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of motivation for the
subjects of oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital disease. Subspecialty
experience, to include assessment, diagnosis and management of common eyelid,
lacrimal and orbital conditions in the out-patient setting is essential.
Further experience of managing more routine surgical conditions like
ectropion, entropion and simple lid lesions is essential.
