Job summary
This
is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthetist.
This post will be offered with a six-month contract and is to commence as soon
as possible.
This
post will deliver 10PAs supporting the cardiac anaesthetic paediatric team at
the Leeds General Infirmary at Leeds.
The
successful applicant should hold accreditation in the FRCA in the Royal College
of Anaesthetics or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register, or
within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently
in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been
authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants
should have established skills in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and have
undertaken advanced training in this area.
Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to
teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
Provision
of Anaesthesia for children requiring cardiac surgery and investigations such
as cardiac catheterisation and MRI.
Supervision
of patients following anaesthesia.
Contribute
to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings.
To
link with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within
the surgical Clinical Support Units and across the Trust.
To
contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Trust.
To
work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive
paediatric anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
To
develop and/or consolidate expertise in paediatric anaesthesia.
To
maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established
within the Trust.
To
support service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes in
clinical practice and new technologies available.
To
participate in and progress Clinical Governance.
About us
This
post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric cardiac anaesthetic team.
This is a post within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The base for this
post is at the Leeds General Infirmary site where the Leeds Childrens hospital
is situated. The successful applicant will join an existing paediatric team of
29 consultant paediatric anaesthetists. This team is part of a larger Trust
team of over 150 consultant anaesthetists who have a wide range of subspecialty
interests and responsibilities.

- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues demonstrated by one of the following
- Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English. OR
- Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application -
- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5) OR
- Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
