Job responsibilities
You will join the Specialty and Integrated
Medicine Clinical Service Unit (CSU) which covers General Internal Medicine,
Elderly Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology, and Infectious Diseases &
Travel Medicine. Most of our departments are based at St Jamess University
Hospital (SJUH), but we also provide a Surgical Liaison service to three
Orthopaedic wards (L09, L34 and L35) at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI, where
this post will be based).
The department is hard-working, friendly
and co-operative. There is a strong focus on continual improvement,
multi-disciplinary teamwork, clinical excellence, and patient safety and
quality.
Excellent training will be provided in the
management of acutely unwell and deteriorating patients, Comprehensive
Geriatric Assessment, rehabilitation, and complex discharge planning.
Opportunities will be provided to join our
audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance programme. There are
excellent training facilities at both LGI and SJUH. Across the CSU,
educational meetings are held on most days of the week.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Completion of
Internal Medicine Training Year 1 and 2 competencies or equivalent.
At
least 12-months' experience working within the NHS in Acute, General or Elderly
Medicine, or Infectious Diseases, of which 6-months should ideally be at
Registrar-level.

DUTIES OF THE POST
To
ensure high quality and safe care of patients within the department resulting
in excellent clinical outcomes.
To
contribute directly to patient care by, for example, reviewing patients,
organising investigations and acting on results, initiating and changing
treatment, and speaking to patients and their relatives/carers about their
illness and clinical progress.
To
undertake essential administrative duties, including prescribing, writing
electronic discharge letters, and liaising with colleagues in primary care.
To
contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working
collaboratively with a large team of allied healthcare professionals, including
specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and discharge
coordinators.
LEVELS OF
RESPONSIBILITY
The post-holder will be expected to work at the level of
a Registrar (Internal Medicine Year 3 equivalent). They will have access to
supervision and support from a Consultant at all times.
TEACHING AND
RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING
Opportunities will
be provided to join our audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance
programme, as well as our departmental educational meetings.
There will be
opportunity to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Study leave is available,
at the discretion of Educational Supervisors, for courses/training related to
Acute, General and Elderly Medicine.

CONDITIONS OF
SERVICE

The post holder is required to be fully registered with
the General Medical Council (GMC) and hold a licence to practice.
Standards
of Conduct and Behaviour
You are required to
work to the standards set out by the General Medical Council in Good Medical
Practice. This includes protecting
patients when you believe that a doctors or other colleagues conduct,
performance or health is a threat to them.
If, after establishing the facts, it is necessary, you must follow the
Trusts procedures in this matter and inform your Clinical Director or Medical
Director in the first instance.
The Trust has a set
of expected behaviours for all employees and additional behaviours and skills
that are expected of managers and supervisors.
Leave
Arrangements
All
leave should be applied for in accordance with the Trusts Leave Policy,
normally giving six weeks notice of any leave, other than in exceptional
circumstances.
Training
The
jobholder must take responsibility in agreement with his/her line manager for
his/her own personal development by ensuring that Continuous Professional
Development remains a priority. The
jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role.

All

Smoking Policy
The Leeds Teaching

position involves access to patients during the normal course of duties and is
therefore subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order)
