FELLOW IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRIC HAEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY.
We
are inviting applications for a part time Specialty Doctor fixed term vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS
Trust in Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology
This
post will commence in December 2024 and is fixed term for 2 years.
Candidates
must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to
practice by the intended start date.
This
post is to provide medical leadership for a pilot project to develop ambulatory
chemotherapy for paediatric and teenage patients undergoing chemotherapy in
Leeds Childrens Hospital. The
successful applicant will work 2 days a week alongside a full time lead nurse
for the project with support from the paediatric pharmacy team. This post could be worked alongside a less
than full time post but the days worked on this project must be
ring-fenced. This will provide an opportunity
in medical leadership and project management as well as developing a much
needed innovation in paediatric chemotherapy delivery.

Main duties of the job
The
post holder will work with the project nurse and with the pharmacy project lead
to develop ambulatory chemotherapy for our patients. This is a two-year fixed
term project, which we anticipate will develop a service which will become
standard of care. Working 2 days a week
(0.4 FTE) on this project, initially the post holder will develop a project
plan for the ambulatory chemotherapy service.
The second phase will be to implement the plan, to carry out the patient
consent for participation and to supervise the initiation of ambulatory
treatment on a Monday and Tuesday. The post holder will supervise the medical
care of the patients on treatment and will review the outcomes after each
course has been administered later in the week.
The
post holder will communicate with the rest of the inpatient and day unit team
and will provide written summaries for the parent, the GP and the local
paediatrician where appropriate.
