Job summary
We
are recruiting 2 x Junior Clinical Fellow post in Respiratory Medicine.
The
posts are for 4 months fixed term contract (April 24 Aug 24) and is a
fantastic opportunity for those desiring experience in respiratory medicine at
a large modern tertiary Respiratory centre. It is intended that these posts
could be tailored to meet training needs, including opportunities for trainees
to become involved in respiratory research and procedural skills.
The
posts would be suitable for individuals who have completed foundation posts, or
those who wish to evolve their experience (e.g. following core medical training)
in order to prepare for higher speciality training programmes.
The
posts are for 4 months and will commence in April 24.
Candidates
must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to
practice at the time of the application.

Main duties of the job
The
service is supported by a number of foundation year doctors and IMT 1-2 doctors
as well as Physician Associates and Specialist Nurses. This will allow
flexibility to tailor training to requirements, including clinics, as well as
opportunities to develop pleural and bronchoscopy skills.
It
is intended that the successful applicant would be involved in audit and
quality improvement projects, including the chance to collaborate with
researchers to present at national meetings and publish work.
We will ensure that these posts receive dedicated
clinical supervision with an experienced named supervisor, portfolio review,
study leave and teaching programmes with evidence to count towards future
training.

Job responsibilities
This
post will provide the opportunity for successful candidates to work in the
tertiary Respiratory Centre. It is intended that this post could be tailored
to meet training needs, including opportunities for trainees to become
involved in respiratory research and procedural skills.
This
appointment will be based at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, St
Jamess University Hospital, Leeds, one of the largest teaching hospital
Trusts in the UK, serving a population of over 3 million. The department
delivers specialist respiratory services including severe asthma,
bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, tuberculosis, COPD, and PCD. The
lung cancer service is one of the largest in the UK and is home to the
Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial. We offer bronchoscopy, endobronchial
ultrasound, thoracoscopy and long-term pleural drainage. There is a
well-established programme in collaboration with radiology to provide pleural
ultrasound certification.
The
department consists of 3 inpatient wards and a 12 bed respiratory care unit
offering non-invasive ventilation. There is a separate ward for the care of
people with cystic fibrosis.
The
department has close links with the University of Leeds and supports delivery
of a number of aspects of the under-graduate MB ChB course with a number of
opportunities to engage within undergraduate teaching.
The
post holder will undertake ward duties, supporting in patient care on the
Respiratory in-patient bed base. There will be opportunities to expand
training in Respiratory specific skills (e.g. pleural ultrasound, pleural
aspiration and bronchoscopy) as well as Respiratory clinics. It is intended
that the duties of the posts will be tailored to the individuals needs,
taking into consideration the post holders prior experience, around the
service elements of the role.
There
will be a commitment to 1:9 full shift LST Respiratory on call rota, fully
supported by resident full shift HST Respiratory rota and daily consultant
ward rounds.
