Main duties of the job

This Senior Fellow position within the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery will be tailored to an individuals training requirement, but provides high volume subspeciality training in reconstructive surgery.

The routine work includes care of patients in the Leeds General Infirmary, attendance at theatre lists and out-patient clinics where areas of need for particular sub specialisation will be addressed with his supervising consultant.

These will need to be clearly defined from the outset by the successful candidate.

The post is full time.

It is expected that the successful candidate will be an experienced trainee in Plastic Surgery or an accredited Plastic Surgeon eligible to take a Consultant post either in the United Kingdom or overseas, with FRCS(Plast) or equivalent. The appointee will therefore be expected to have appropriate skills in the areas of plastic surgery and be prepared to develop them fully during the course of the Fellowship. The fellow will be expected to attend and contribute to the teaching programme and departmental audit meetings.

About us

The Leeds unit is based at the Leeds General Infirmary with some facilities at St. James's University Teaching Hospital.

The Plastic Surgery Unit has 17 adult beds, access to paediatric wards and 4 beds on the High Dependency Unit. A daily dressing clinic with a separate Sister and staff also operates within the Unit.

Both Leeds hospitals have busy Accident and Emergency Departments and general Plastic Surgery emergencies are referred to the Unit. The Unit takes acute hand emergencies and many trauma cases are treated as combined procedures with the Orthopaedic Surgeons. The Leeds General Infirmary has been awarded the status of being a Major Trauma Centre. There is a dedicated major trauma ward and a major trauma operating theatre.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. As such, all our job adverts are subject to this policy and we reserve the right to close, delay or remove adverts while this process is completed. If you do experience a delay in the shortlisting stage of the recruitment cycle, please bear with us while this process is completed, and contact the named contact if you have any questions.
