We
are pleased to advertise the post, Clinical Fellow in Genomic Medicine. This
is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our
experienced team within the Clinical Genetics Department based at Chapel
Allerton Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a 6 month post
starting on either Monday 5th March 2024 or Wednesday 7th March 2024. The post is suitable for doctors, with an
interest in Clinical Genetics, especially those considering applying for a
national training number in Clinical Genetics in the future.
You
will work and contribute to the running of a busy Clinical Genetics department.
You will be actively involved in clinics, MDTs, acute ward referrals and
teaching. You will work in a team with our training registrars and other
clinical fellows. You will be supported and supervised by the consultant
team. You will also work closely within our wider team: genetic counsellors,
genomic associates, admin and lab colleagues. The post will give you valuable
experience for your clinical genetics national recruitment application and
interview.
Shortlisting
will take place on 23/10/2023 with interviews on 26/10/2023 (on MS-Teams).
Main duties of the job
The
clinical fellow, under supervision, will hold clinics, contribute to
departmental and multidisciplinary team meetings and deliver teaching
sessions. The role will also include supporting the consultants in their
delivery of excellent clinical care.
The
clinical fellow may be required to carry out some or all of the following
roles:
1.
Support consultant clinical activity
2.
Hold outpatient (Leeds, Hull and Bradford), telephone and video clinics
3.
Participate in the urgent ward referral rota
4.
Write and sign-off clinic letters promptly
5.
Attend all stipulated departmental meetings
6.
Support multidisciplinary team meetings
7.
Undertake audit or quality improvement projects
8.
Teach medical students and other medical personnel as directed
9.
Attend induction and comply with all local policies including dress code,
annual and study leave
10.
Maintain continued professional development

Department of Clinical Genetics is based at Chapel Allerton Hospital with a
satellite unit in Hull Royal Infirmary and is part of the Leeds Teaching

team of 8 consultants, 8 specialty trainees, 2 GPwSI and genetic counsellors
to provide a specialist service to West, North and East Yorkshire. Clinics
are held at several hospitals in the region. Specialist clinics and MDT

urgent neonatal review service. We work closely with our genetic laboratory
and colleagues in the Sheffield and Newcastle genetic services.

DETAILS
This
is a 6 month fixed term post to run until 3rd September 2024 for a Trust doctor
in the department of Clinical Genetics. The post is suitable for doctors with
an interest in Clinical Genetics especially those who are considering
applying for a national training number in Clinical Genetics in the future or
wish to gain experience in the specialty.
The
Clinical Fellow will be expected to hold clinics, under supervision. They
will also attend and contribute to departmental meetings, multidisciplinary

their application for a national training number. This can be tailored and in
addition to clinical experience may include active participation in audit,

hours are standard working hours of 9-5pm Monday to Friday with an additional
hour on Monday from 8-9am to help set up the departmental MDT meeting. Due to
clinic and MDT commitments occasional days may require an 8am start time. The
role may include attending clinics in Hull and Bradford occasionally (1-4
times per month). These working days may be longer due to travel.
The
post duties may include a combination of the following. The post holder may
not be required to carry out all the duties listed. This will depend upon the
requirements of the service.
