We
have an exciting opportunity here at Leeds Teaching Hospitals to fill a vacancy
as a Trust Grade Doctor (Level ST3+) post within the second largest Major
Trauma Centre in the UK based at the Leeds General Infirmary.
The post has been designed for an experienced doctor
wishing to pursue a career as an Orthopaedic surgeon. We can offer you frequent exposure to polytrauma
and trauma Orthopaedic surgery aligned with excellent training opportunities,
you will be allocated an educational supervisor to help guide your career
aspirations and to maximise educational opportunities you will have the
opportunity to access medical expertise in a wide variety of disciplines. The applicant must have a minimum of two
years previous experience in trauma and orthopedic surgery, current ATLS
certification and must have full MRCS or equivalent
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will work with a team of surgeons to provide inpatient care for
both trauma and elective patients. Excellent training opportunities are
available in clinic and theatre as well as a vast exposure to acute trauma.
Successful candidates will be allocated an educational supervisor to help guide
their career aspirations, maximise educational opportunities and will have the
opportunity to access medical expertise in a wide variety of disciplines. The ST3+ post holder will contribute to the
on calls and will be on a 24 hour partial shift, on the third tier supporting
the FY1/2, and CT1/2 doctors.
Leeds
Teaching Hospitals is a leading healthcare institution, excelling in patient
care, teaching and research. We provide Trauma and Orthopaedic services from
two sites within Leeds. All trauma is
admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary and elective work is undertaken at
Chapel Allerton Hospital, approximately 3 miles from the Infirmary. The Trust
Grade Doctor will be expected to work at both sites.
This
service will include:
Fracture Clinics
Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic
surgery
Weekend Hip lists
Ward rounds and patient reviews
Support to FY1/2, and ST1/2 doctors.
Full in house educational and
clinical supervision and mentoring package
Access to participate in on-going
departmental research and audit presentations.
Opportunities to teach undergraduates
Access to clinical governance
meetings.

To contribute directly to patient care by, for example, reviewing patients,
organising investigations and acting on results, initiating and changing
treatment, and speaking to and involving patients in their care and management
and keeping patients and their relatives/carers updated about their clinical
progress.
To undertake essential administrative duties, including prescribing, writing
electronic discharge letters, and liaising with colleagues in primary care to
facilitate safe and appropriate discharges.
To contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working
collaboratively with a large team of allied healthcare professionals, including
the Early Discharge Assessment Team, specialist nurses and physiotherapists.

of hours Duties at Leeds General Infirmary
There
are 2 separate consultants on-call; one for MTC admissions and one for
orthopaedic trauma. This job has on-call
commitments and is a combination of full shift and on-call.

Theatre
sessions and outpatient clinics form the basis of the role holding designated
clinical responsibility for inpatients and outpatients for a consultant group
as designated. The post holders will be expected to contribute to both
outpatient sessions and theatre lists.
These
posts are designed to provide sufficient training, education and experience to
develop senior registrars in their final years of training.
Teaching
There
are excellent opportunities to attend regular post graduate teaching. There is a weekly teaching programme for all
grades of Junior Doctors. There is a SpR
rota for the supervison of FY doctors, this is designed to provide training for
SpR doctors; undertaking ward rounds and bedside teaching of junior doctors as
well help the wider team to integrate.
This rota also provides breathing space from what is a busy trauma and
orthopaedic service.

opportunities are available to participate in clinical research and audit.
Facilities
are available for clinical research and laboratory facilities can be arranged
