Job summary

We are inviting applications for our new (STR level) fellowship at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Radiology.

This post will commence January 2024 - 12 months contract. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date. Candidates must also either hold a CCT or be within 6 months of CCT in Clinical Radiology and demonstrate a definite interest in Head & Neck Radiology.

Main duties of the job

Undertake a fellowship providing specialist training in all aspects of Head & Neck Radiology and PET/CT working closely with the consultant radiologists in these specialities. Will further develop a specialist interest in aspects of head & neck radiology and nuclear medicine and participate in the Radiology ST teaching and training programme. Will also participate in departmental clinical research and audit, and assist in the training and supervision of junior medical staff (radiological and other clinicians).as well as allied health professionals. The successful applicant will contribute to the planned expansions of head & neck Radiology services - US guided therapeutic interventions, greater involvement in Head & Neck Oncology research (RECIST reporting).

We can offer extensive exposure and teaching for a variety of imaging techniques including fluoroscopy, ultrasound, MRI and CT in both the acute and outpatient setting.

The timetable/job plan will be based on 33.65 hours 8.4 clinical sessions per week. Sessions will be based between the sites of St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH) and Leeds General Infirmary (LGI). A further 4 hours/1 session per week is intended for private study, teaching preparation, audit and research.

Additionally an alternate week evening general acute CT list (5-9 PM) will be incorporated into the fellowship timetable (2 hours standard time, 2 hours premium time = 2.35 hours per week total). There is no further on-call commitment. The total hourly commitment per week is therefore 40 hours. A provisional timetable is attached but this will change over the course of the 12-months based on a 3-monthly review of training needs and any sub-specialism interests as well as opportunities to work collaboratively.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • FRCR (Part 2) or equivalent evidence of radiology training with at least 4.5 years in a UK recognised Radiology Training Scheme.
  • The candidate should have or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in Clinical Radiology by the start of the post.

Desirable

  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date

Experience

Essential

  • At least 4.5 years experience in a recognised Radiology Training Scheme after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards /
  • Make the care or your patient your first concern and provide a good standard of practice and care
  • Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1 competencies in Medicine or Surgery (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training or Core Surgical Training
  • Take prompt action if you think that patient safety, dignity or comfort is being compromised protect and promote the health of patients and of the public
