An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate, innovative, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our existing team in the Medical Examiner Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful applicant will be required to provide a high standard of clerical service and, where necessary, reception duties to the Bereavement and Medical Examiner Services department, adhering to departmental guidelines and policies.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a range of clerical and administrative duties which will include receiving and checking documentation, reports, and collation of data and processing appropriately within departmental guidelines, entering information onto the appropriate IT system and retrieving information as and when required.

The successful applicant will work closely alongside the existing team of Medical Examiner / Officers and a wide range of Trust staff and external partners. In addition, the post holder will empathetically and compassionately communicate with the bereaved during the administrative processes after death.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Education to GCSE grade C standard or equivalent in literacy and numeracy level 2
  • NVQ2 in Administration / Health & Social Care or an equivalent level of knowledge/experience

Desirable

  • NVQ2 in Bereavement / Funeral Director / Coronial related subject

Skills & behaviours

Essential

  • Able to work on own initiative, within agreed departmental guidelines
  • Flexible approach to duties and working practices
  • Attained good interpersonal skills
  • Be able to effectively communicate with the bereaved and team members regarding sensitive and distressing matters

Other Criteria

Essential

  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post with reasonable adjustments as necessary, including: able to locate and collect patient and other documentation from around Trust sites;

Experience

Essential

  • Competent keyboard skills to maintain a high quality, accurate and efficient service (keyboard/data entry)
  • Previous experience in an office environment (includes work experience at school or college)
  • IT skills including keyboard and data entry, with the ability to demonstrate proficiency in the use of software
