Job summary

We are recruiting motivated, caring individuals with an eye for detail for the role of Trainee Dental Technicians.

This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) is based in the dental technology training laboratories at Leeds dental Institute.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (grade C or above) or equivalent with English Language, Maths being essential and a Science subject being desirable. Trainees with an Art/Crafts background also achieve well on this course.

On successful completion of work based practical assessments and coursework, you will be awarded a BTEC Extended Diploma in Dental Technology, which will enable you to register as a Dental Care Professional with the General Dental Council (GDC).

Successful applicants will work as team members within the Dental Team. They will assist qualified Dental Technicians in constructing dental prostheses for patients in the Dental Laboratory in their allocated department.

Our Full Time Training Course in Dental Technology is a 35-month programme. We are recruiting for trainees to start on 29/08/2023.

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will be undertaking a training programme within the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (LTHT). The training will be delivered through formal education delivered by the School of Dental Care Professionals situated within Leeds Dental Institute, and internal and external laboratory placements. They will be involved in providing indirect care for patients in support of, and supervised by a registered dental professional.

It is expected that the trainee will commit to self-directed study and successfully complete the training programme within the contract period.

The jobholder will work under supervision, within a dental laboratory, undertaking routine construction of basic dental devices in the Leeds Dental Institute and external laboratory placements whilst undergoing the training programme.

Leeds Dental Institute provides specialist treatments and advice following a referral from a dentist or doctor. This covers the full range of dental specialties, oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as oral medicine.

Leeds Dental Institute provide routine dental treatments as part of dental undergraduate training. It also runs three outreach teaching centres in South Leeds, Bradford and Hull to provide dental care in the community and as part of the learning experience.

Salary £22,383 p.a.
