An
exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team in Ophthalmology Outpatients
Department located in Gledhow Wing, St James University Hospital and Seacroft
Hospital.
Ophthalmology
is the largest provider of specialist Ophthalmology service in the Yorkshire
region and is extremely busy, we see both acute and clinic patients. As a
Ward Environmental Porter, you will play an essential role in supporting the
smooth and efficient running of patient services. Working closely with the
nursing team and the wider MDT, you will contribute to maintaining a safe,
organised and patient centred environment.
Ophthalmology
Outpatients Department at St James Hospital is open 08:00-18:00 and Seacroft
Hospital 08:00-17:30 Monday to Friday.
St
James's Eye Clinic is also open during the weekends for emergencies (Saturday
8:30-12:30 and Sunday 9:30-12:30. In addition to this there is once a month a
long Saturday shift Potentially you may be required to cover long Saturday
shifts on a rotational basis.
It
is a busy, fast paced environment that requires a motivated and dynamic
individual who is patient-centred, compassionate and sensitive to the needs
of patients who are visually impaired. Many patients require a lot of
reassurance and guidance therefore a calm and friendly patient approach is
essential along with excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job
As
a Ward Environmental Porter in Ophthalmology OPD, you will work closely with
the nursing team, medical team, admin staff and other MDT colleagues to
provide a smooth, caring and efficient service for patients. Your main
responsibilities will include providing excellent care for patients whilst
supporting them through their journey through Ophthalmology Outpatients
Department, patient flow management, prescription handling, stock
maintenance, equipment cleaning, organising transport, taking specimens to pathology,
maintaining a safe environment and reporting problems.

team also trains Ophthalmic specialist trainees from the region.

The
jobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirect
compassionate care for patients in support of the multidisciplinary team.

Patient
Support and Flow
Assist with the timely and safe
movement of patients throughout the department to ensure clinics run
efficiently.
Provide support to clinical teams
by escorting patients as required.
Organise and assist with patient
transfers between clinical areas.

to the Pharmacy located in the Chancellors Wing.
