Job summary

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a highly motivated and proactive Senior Finance Officer to join our Management Accounting Team.

This is a key role in providing excellent financial management support, working closely with both clinical and corporate departments to ensure sound financial decision-making. You will play a vital part in month end processes, financial analysis and reporting.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the Senior Finance Officer role is to produce and provide routine financial monitoring information, as well as support and advice to budget holders and finance colleagues across the Trust. The role acts as a key link and point of support for a number of designated business units.

This involves carrying out routine management accounting tasks and responding to day-to-day financial queries, in line with agreed timetables, procedures and quality standards.

The post holder will also support the Accountants in producing timely and accurate financial information. This includes completing tasks on behalf of the team, as well as undertaking work that is less routine and more complex in nature.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting and accounting:

To produce monthly financial statements and associated information for a number of departments to an agreed timetable and in line with agreed processes and procedures.

Interfaces with budget holders/other customers:

To act as the first point of contact for budget holders and monitors in terms of routine queries in respect of their financial information and day to day budgetary management responsibilities. This will also require the organisation of monthly budget holder meetings to discuss the month end financial reports in order to ensure their underlying accuracy and to deal with immediate queries.

Costing and provision of other financial information:

To respond to requests for the financial assessment of routine proposals, costing each element of expenditure or income contained within the proposal, making appropriate use of spreadsheets and standard costing information and guidance: presenting the information in a clear and concise manner suitable for the recipient, advising budget holders of any potential issues.

Delivery of cross-functional or cross team tasks

To perform tasks which need to be co-ordinated by one individual, on behalf of the team.

Year end accounting

To carry out year end accounting tasks in line with year end timetables.

To participate in the production of annual budgets and ensuring high quality standards.

Experience

Essential

  • Use of Microsoft Office including Excel and Word
  • Use of Oracle Ledger and reporting tools
  • Practical experience within Management Accounting, including detailed understanding of accounting procedures, financial ledgers, coding structures and interpreting financial information

Desirable

  • Financial Management experience within the NHS

Skills & Behaviours

  • A confident, pleasant and enthusiastic approach, willing to develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, budget holders and other managers
  • Good team working skills, able to carry out work with others and to provide informal training to less experienced or new members of the support team as required
