Now is an exciting time to join the Kaizen Promotion Office (KPO) as we adopt a new structure that seeks to increase our ability to spread and embed our Leeds Improvement Method, maximising learning and improvement capabilities across the Trust and beyond.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Trainee Improvement Specialist on a fixed term 12-month contract.

The successful candidate will work closely with Improvement Specialists to support the development and delivery of Leeds Improvement Method training in virtual or classroom-based learning environments. They will also support improvement projects and facilitate a variety of improvement events.

For success, this role requires you to bring clinical or operational experience in a healthcare setting and understanding the Leeds Improvement Method. You will need to be creative, and demonstrate the values, attitude and behaviours that support meaningful and sustainable change.

JOB PURPOSE

To work across the Trust within a development role to facilitate the achievement of sustainable improvement and organisational change with responsibility for leading on key projects using the Trusts Leeds Improvement Method (LIM).

The purpose is to provide expert advanced lean tools, methodology and coaching to the teams within the Value Streams and deliver training.

You will be responsible for supporting the KPO Specialists in the KPO team in scoping improvement programmes, providing advice and support to clinical and corporate services.

You will be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of a range of training programmes.

3. JOB DIMENSIONS

In conjunction with the KPO Specialists, you will lead on identifying how data will be collected to support quality improvement. You will be required to gather, analyse and present complex data to influence decision making to improve services which may include performance data, surveys, referral information, service user and/or carers views as well as capacity and demand.

The post holder will facilitate the work of, and support CSU members in improvement activities using the Leeds Improvement Method.

a) Deliver change through facilitation, training, engagement of stakeholders, analysis, planning, consultation, project management, capacity and demand analysis and other proven techniques to ensure the improvements are sustainable, sharing good practice at all levels.

b) Spread, implement and embed the Leeds Improvement methodology across the Trust.

c) Produce recommendations for change and engage clinical teams to redesign and improve services according to those findings.

d) Measure changes and outcomes to support the CSU to inspire, lead and motivate staff to improve care for patients.

e) Participate in genba walks to better determine the improvements required.

There are no line management responsibilities for this post. The post holder will support, supervise and train other staff across the team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The post-holder should be educated to degree level or equivalent

Qualification in a recognised specialist field such as lean methodology or equivalent post graduate level project management experience

Evidence of continuing professional development

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

You will support KPO managers in engaging service users and carers as part of the Trusts improvement work, ensuring that their views are heard when redesigning systems and processes.

The post holder will act as the KPO specialist and facilitate the delivery of patient centred rapid process improvement workshops to deliver pre-set objectives as agreed with the KPO Lead.

This may include facilitating patient/carer focus groups, developing questionnaires to gain service user/carers views or involving service users and carers in improvement work.

To develop and deliver training of a range of complex, specialist topics across the Trust

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely information on core quality and clinical effectiveness agendas are available and are used to influence improvement work.

This includes word processing, typing or producing other computerised output such as drawings; inputting documents or notes compiled by self or others;

collating or compiling statistics from existing records; pulling and/or filing records on regular basis.

Running Query reports which are computer generated structured reports used to request information from a database.

In conjunction with the KPO Specialist, you will lead on identifying how data will be collected to support quality improvement. You will be required to gather, analyse and present complex data to influence decision making to improve services which may include performance data, surveys, referral information, service user and/or carers views as well as capacity and demand.

The post holder is responsible for the physical resources in relation to equipment required for improvement events, stationery and electrical equipment

The work may influence policy development and you may be required to lead on developing policies within the organisation which will support sustainable improvements.

Be involved in strategic development plans and business objectives for the service. These need to be consistent with the Trusts values and behaviours. .

Support the co-ordination and delivery of a range of LIM training programmes which covers a range of topics and is complex in nature

the post-holder will be required to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities or programmes some of which are on-going. This can include complex staff or work planning where there is a need to allocate and reallocate tasks or involve coordinating activities with other professionals and agencies. The post-holder is the responsible for organising national learning events for other VM organisations where a substantial amount of detailed planning is required.

Liaise with KPO lead to help scope and negotiate KPO support
