Help keep our Trust grounds in shape and our patients, staff and visitors safe.

We're looking to appoint a motivated individual as a Site Clearance Operative to work within the Estates External Environment Team. In this role you will be part of a small mobile team, predominantly based at the St James' University Hospital, who work across a number of our sites and are dedicated to ensuring our external environments look great and are safe for all who use them.

The role will involve site clearance activities including sweeping roads and footpaths, litter picking, clearing road gullies, removing debris from the grounds and roof areas etc. to maintain the external areas of the trust in a clean and tidy condition.

The successful candidate will be required to drive trust vehicles therefore a full British drivers licence is an essential qualification. Training will be given on other machinery you may be required to operate

The position is 37.5 hours per week, shift patten TBC (may include some weekend working). The post holder will be required to participate in the 22 week winter on call rota for gritting and snow clearing between November and March each year

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be part of a 8 person team working trust wide. The role is to ensure the Trusts grounds and gardens are maintained to a high standard in accordance with legislation and codes of practice.

The work will include the sweeping of roads, kerb edges and footpaths, litter picking, emptying litter bins, removing debris from the trust grounds and roof areas. The cleaning of road gullies, roof gutters, fallen leaves and undertaking snow clearing, gritting and other routine winter duties.

They may also be required to assist the grounds operatives with landscaping including paving, walling and minor tarmac repairs.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake all monitoring procedures for hand arm vibration and noise exposure in accordance with the Health & Safety executive requirements including completion of exposure logs.

The candidate will be required to operate vehicles and machinery as part of the post including, but not restricted to, road sweeper, pressure washers, steam cleaners and hand tools. You will also be required to drive the trust vehicles so will need to have a full current British drivers licence.

This job can involve prolonged periods of physical activity in extreme weather and therefore the post holder must be capable of undertaking such duties.

Training is available, subject to budget, as part of the position and the candidate may be required to attend training on an external providers premises.
