Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the LGI Estates Buildings team for a maintenance assistant. The building team is made up of several trades including general builders/bricklayers, joiners, painters, floor layers, gardeners etc. so there's plenty of opportunity to expand your skills and develop.
Your role will involve supporting the safe maintenance, assembly, dismantling, and repair of equipment and the built environment at LGI. As such a large and complex Trust, with a varied estate, you'll have the opportunity to learn as you work and work with a range of experts, all while supporting our clinical teams so they can continue to deliver excellent patient care.
You will work closely with other Estates Maintenance Workers/Craftsman and contribute to a flexible, skilled workforce capable of responding effectively to a variety of maintenance needs.
This role demands a commitment to safety, teamwork, and ongoing skills development to maintain the highest standards within the Estates department.
The role is a fulltime position providing 37.5hrs per week
A competitive salary AFC Band 3 £24,937 - £26,598
(Inc. enhancements for unsocial hours.)
Annual leave starting at 27 days per annum (rising to 33 days with continuous service) + (England) Statutory Bank holidays.

Main duties of the job
As a Maintenance Assistant within the acute hospital building team, you will be working closely with the joinery/building team to ensure the safety, functionality, and compliance of hospital infrastructure, supporting high-quality patient care.
You will independently carry out routine, non-routine and emergency building maintenance, including minor repairs, assembly, and dismantling. You will develop skills across related trades to meet the diverse needs of the healthcare environment.
Your role involves planning and prioritizing daily tasks to address technical and safety issues that could impact hospital operations.
You will assist senior team members with complex repairs, new installations, and infrastructure improvements. Accurate recording of maintenance activities in the Works Management System ensures compliance with hospital policies and regulations.
You will support building surveys for future maintenance and upgrades, operate hospital-approved vehicles and equipment safely, and contribute to the induction and mentoring of new staff.
Adherence to infection control, health and safety standards, and Trust policies is essential.
You will carry communication devices for rapid response to urgent requests and emergencies. Additionally, you will undertake any other building-related duties assigned to maintain smooth hospital operations.
