Job summary

Decontamination Technicians, Band 2. St Jamess Hospital (SJH) and Leeds General Infirmary sites (LGI)

We are looking to appoint 3 enthusiastic; self- motivated flexible, reliable, and well organised individuals to join our friendly and hardworking team of 15 Decontamination Technicians based at the Endoscopy Decontamination Service (EDS).

The successful candidates will advocate the Trusts values and behaviours and demonstrate that they are able to work as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking and ability to work in a flexible manner to meet the changing needs of the service.

The (EDS) comprises of 2 central processing hubs (St Jamess University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary) and is responsible for the cleaning and high-level disinfection of flexible endoscopes used to view the inside of body cavities during a clinical procedure.

The EDS provides a continuous service to our users throughout the Trust 7 days a week.

The post holder will work 37.5hrs per week and will be required to work flexible/ rotating shift patterns, which may include weekends as necessary include working cross site at short notice to cover for unplanned sickness/annual leave.

Shift 2.10.00-18.00 Monday - Friday

Main duties of the job

To meet the demands of the Endoscopy decontamination units functions whilst achieving high quality standards of service to our users

Requires long periods of standing and repetition of tasks as well as attention to detail and the ability to follow prescribed protocols. The service is compliant to JAG and relevant ISO Standards and is working to implement a Quality Management System compliant with ISO 13485

The use of automated decontamination equipment including Endoscope Washer Disinfectors as part of the automated decontamination processes employed within the unit

To work in accordance with departmental policies and procedures in line with the departments Quality Management System

To undertake the manual clean for flexible endoscopes prior to automated decontamination and communication/escalation of any failures

To document all daily maintenance of machines and equipment as required

To ensure all processes are recorded on the electronic tracking and traceability system

To ensure that all necessary documentation is completed in accordance with departmental protocols

To carry out and record all Daily/Weekly checks in line with HTM guidance and departmental protocols

To deliver vital items to the Theatres/ endoscopy and other service users when required

To communicate with enquiries from users in a professional manner

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work as part of a team in all areas of the endoscope re-processing unit and will be expected to work flexibly to cover all shift patterns

The position will require handling of contaminated medical devices (endoscopes), wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and the safe operation of decontamination equipment

The post holder will support the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System across the service

To be responsible for the re-stocking of chemicals and disposable items required within the department

To report equipment faults to supervisors/managers in line with manufacturer guidelines, SOP and Trust Policy

To maintain records of repairs to equipment within the department.

To escalate to senior members of staff any faults identified that may prevent the safe reprocessing and availability of endoscopic equipment

To transport clean/contaminated endoscopes between the point of use (clinical user areas) and the decontamination unit

The post holder will be required to work flexibly on a rotational basis to cover the needs of the service
