Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a security supervisor to assist in the running of one of our in house security teams. The successful candidate will be required to have extensive experience of Hospital security with security supervisory experience an advantage.

Main duties of the job

Supervising a team of 7 security officers with responsibility for daily management, health and wellbeing , training record upkeep as well as rostering and dynamic risk assessment during each shift.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Day to day supervision of the operational Security Staff and the Control Room Staff. Duties will include sickness and absence management, personal development, appraisals, training, disciplinary issues, health and safety and staff recruitment.

Organising and deploying staff to ensure that the needs of the security service, control room, traffic management, car park management, roving patrol and vehicle enforcement are met.

In conjunction with the Assistant Facilities Manager ensure that the staff rotas are fully adhered to and that there are sufficient staff on duty to provide the required level of service.

Dynamic allocation of jobs and duties to staff and the on-going monitoring of activities by the use of a computer based task management system. Produce associated reports.

Ensure that security patrols are carried out on a regular basis and monitored using a watchman recording and logging system. Use the associated data to produce management reports showing times and areas covered and investigate anomalies.

Carry out formal documented handover sessions with other Supervisors and Security staff at the change of each shift for the purpose of updating on the days activities and briefing on any outstanding or key issues.

Ensure an effective communication process is in place to keep staff fully updated on matters affecting the Security Department and that any communications, rotas, emails, etc are displayed on all of the staff communication notice boards.

Maintain regular radio communication with all staff and ensure that staff follow the correct radio procedures and protocols. In the case of the roving patrol and other staff in lone worker situations, ensure that regular contact is made and logged to support safe working practices.

Management of the Trusts Lost and Found property service which includes maintaining the property register, ensuring the safe storage of lost property and the disposal of unclaimed property.

Produce and maintain all necessary records and documentation required for the administration of the Security Service which include incident sheets, IR1s, log books, log reports, return to works interviews, sickness records, staff permit requests, visitor permits, signing off security contractor worksheets, etc.

Ensure that detailed, accurate and timely records are kept on all incidents and activities using either paper based or computer based systems.

Effectively manage the performance of staff under your control against key targets and measures (including, but not limited to: attendance, conduct & discipline and appraisals, etc).

Ensure that staff carrying out vehicle enforcement duties follow Trust polices and procedures and that no untrained staff are allowed to use the PCN equipment.

Maintain close liaison with the PCSOs and ensure that they are fully briefed on security issues relating to the Trust.

Immediately deal and resolve any problems relating to the operation of the pay and display machines or pay on foot machines. Ensure that staff carry out the emptying of the cash collection boxes and that full boxes are safely delivered to the cashiers office.

Arrange for Security staff to carry out escort duties for the Cashiers.

Attend meetings as necessary relating to contractor compounds, contractor parking, vehicle access and material deliveries, etc.

Meet with staff, patients and visitors when required to deal with problems relating to parking and access. To provide solutions to remedy the matter.

Ensure that staff adhere to the Trusts Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures.

Where areas of the hospital or car parks are required to be cordoned off, arrange for staff to place cones or traffic barriers to prevent vehicles from parking.

Carry investigations, take statements and provide written reports with regard to breaches of security, incidents, thefts, damage and major traffic/access problems.

Ensure that all staff follow the Directorates dress code and wear the appropriate PPE for the duties being carried out.

Provide effective security and traffic services in a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, visitors and Trust assets.

Ensure that line management are made aware of any serious incidents.

Follow Trust, Directorate and Departmental policies and procedures for booking annual leave, changes to rota and sickness reporting.

At the start of each shift carry out the appropriate vehicle checks and complete the vehicle record logs. Report any vehicle defect to the Transport Department.

Ensure that vehicles are kept in a clean and tidy condition at all times.

Assist with the production of ID badges and security/traffic access cards.

Assist with the issue of keys to staff.

Assist in promoting initiatives to reduce the use of the motor vehicle and encourage alternatives forms of transport and travel, through innovation and education, along with close working relationships with Leeds City Council and other external agencies.

Assist in promoting initiatives for tackling violence and aggression against staff and health care professionals within the Trust (Zero Tolerance initiative), through innovation, education, prevention and detection routes, along with close working relationships with the Police and other external agencies.
