Job summary

Estates Department Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Job Title: Estates Maintenance Worker The Estates Department is looking to appoint a motivated individual with maintenance and construction experience for our Estates Department. The post will be predominantly based at St James University Hospital, however the successful candidate will be asked to support colleagues at other sites within the Trust. Candidates should ideally have experience gained in engineering or a similar environment. The successful candidate will be required to carry out duties that will include unsupervised maintenance and repair work of a minor technical nature.

Main duties of the job

The role is an integral part of the Estates operations team and as such the successful candidate will also be expected to support the engineering/building maintenance craftsmen in their duties, this includes working with the Mechanical/Electrical Technicians, building technicians and Shift Engineers. Work will include day to day reactionary maintenance works and also routine planned maintenance activities. Applicants should therefore ideally have a good understanding of Engineering maintenance and its application. However training is available for successful candidates.

4. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Undertake unsupervised routine and non-routine maintenance and minor repair work. A range of more complex tasks such as Hydrotherapy Pool Maintenance and Testing, Portable Appliance Testing, Thermostatic Mixer Valve Testing/Adjusting, Legionella Temperature Checks and Testing/Repair of Nurse Call Handsets may be carried out subject to appropriate training or experience. Learn minor work of other trades as needed. Normal duties will consist of day to day building and engineering/electrical routine maintenance tasks. Plan own ongoing maintenance work to ensure completion in a timely manner including problem solving of technical issues. Assist higher grades on new work and repairs. Utilise the Works Management System for recording, updating and auditing estates records and assisting in the compilation of Plant Histories. Give assistance in carrying out surveys for future maintenance, alterations or improvements. Carry out a range of driving duties on Fork Lift Trucks, Road Vehicles, Hydraulic Lift Platforms subject to appropriate training Support induction of new starters/apprentices and pass information to colleagues, other staff and patients in areas of their own expertise. Use of relevant tools and equipment, including the manipulation of fine tools. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of good safety practices. Deputise for storekeeper in Building & Engineering stores. Carry Trust communication devices to facilitate immediate response to urgent requests and emergency breakdowns Participate in appropriate on-call / shift rotas, subject to appropriate negotiations and agreement, and be prepared to work such hours that may be required in an emergency. Any other duties as may be reasonably required by line management commensurate with the grades of the post. Respond to switchboard and building management system alarms. eg. Fire alarms, MRI alarms, Lift Trappings, including supervising the release of trapped passengers. Provide, maintain, repair and adjust traction and wheelchair equipment in conjunction with medical practitioners and patients.
