The
Research and Innovation Department is continuing its exciting expansion. We
have several research specialities, and the NIHR Leeds Clinical Research
Facility is looking for a Public and Patient Involvement Engagement Officer.
It is a full-time post (1.0 WTE) and will be based at Leeds Teaching
Hospitals NHS Trust with travel across Leeds.
The
post holder will contribute actively to the conduct, coordination, and
delivery of the PPIE Research Portfolio. The main tasks are: delivering the
NIHR Leeds CRF annual PPIE plan, focusing on enhancing engagement with
underserved groups; managing the RIDERS (Research & Innovation Document
Engagement and Review Service) commercial programme, providing patient/public
review of research documents for pharmaceutical companies; and coordinating
volunteer Research Champions and PPIE Advisory Groups across multiple disease
specialities.
In
addition to ensuring that high standards of patient and public involvement in
planning, delivery, safety, and satisfaction are met to very high standards,
compliance with Trust policy, NIHR requirements, local and national PPIE
guidance, and legislation is required.

Main duties of the job
We
are seeking to recruit a proactive and self-motivated individual with a keen
interest in research to join the NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility PPIE
team.
The
post-holder will: work alongside commercial pharmaceutical companies,
Clinical Research Organisations, and the National Institute for Health
Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H),
attending regional and national meetings as required. They will play a lead
role in the RIDERS commercial service, coordinating patient and public review
panels to evaluate research documents for international sponsors. The role
involves managing diverse volunteer Research Champions across cancer,
cardiovascular, dental, children's, and multimorbidity specialities, whilst
developing community partnerships with grassroots organisations to enhance
engagement with underserved populations. The post holder will deliver virtual
outreach programmes, support the Multi-morbidity Joint Enablement Group, and
contribute to the NIHR Leeds CRF's annual PPIE objectives. Working
collaboratively with NIHR family colleagues, local government public health
teams, voluntary sector partners, and community organisations, they will
coordinate public engagement activities at local and regional levels. The
role requires excellent project management skills to deliver complex
initiatives spanning multiple partners whilst ensuring compliance with NIHR
frameworks and Trust policies.
