Job summary

The Research and Innovation Department is continuing its exciting expansion. We have several research specialities, and the NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility is looking for a Public and Patient Involvement Engagement Officer. It is a full-time post (1.0 WTE) and will be based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust with travel across Leeds.

The post holder will contribute actively to the conduct, coordination, and delivery of the PPIE Research Portfolio. The main tasks are: delivering the NIHR Leeds CRF annual PPIE plan, focusing on enhancing engagement with underserved groups; managing the RIDERS (Research & Innovation Document Engagement and Review Service) commercial programme, providing patient/public review of research documents for pharmaceutical companies; and coordinating volunteer Research Champions and PPIE Advisory Groups across multiple disease specialities.

In addition to ensuring that high standards of patient and public involvement in planning, delivery, safety, and satisfaction are met to very high standards, compliance with Trust policy, NIHR requirements, local and national PPIE guidance, and legislation is required.

If you are interested in the position, we encourage you to contact Hanif Ismail, PPIE Manager, for an informal discussion.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit a proactive and self-motivated individual with a keen interest in research to join the NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility PPIE team.

The post-holder will: work alongside commercial pharmaceutical companies, Clinical Research Organisations, and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H), attending regional and national meetings as required. They will play a lead role in the RIDERS commercial service, coordinating patient and public review panels to evaluate research documents for international sponsors. The role involves managing diverse volunteer Research Champions across cancer, cardiovascular, dental, children's, and multimorbidity specialities, whilst developing community partnerships with grassroots organisations to enhance engagement with underserved populations. The post holder will deliver virtual outreach programmes, support the Multi-morbidity Joint Enablement Group, and contribute to the NIHR Leeds CRF's annual PPIE objectives. Working collaboratively with NIHR family colleagues, local government public health teams, voluntary sector partners, and community organisations, they will coordinate public engagement activities at local and regional levels. The role requires excellent project management skills to deliver complex initiatives spanning multiple partners whilst ensuring compliance with NIHR frameworks and Trust policies.
