Job summary

The Research and Innovation Department has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, motivated individual who enjoys a challenge to join our research team in Leeds. The Neurosciences Research Team is seeking a confident, experienced Senior Research Nurse to provide leadership to a team of research delivery staff, working closely with clinicians, nurse specialists, and external partners to deliver a research portfolio for patients. Due to the clinical nature and medicine management requirements of the role we are preferably looking for a registered nurse.

This is a full-time (1.0 WTE), permanent post based in Neurosciences at Leeds General Infirmary, with some cross-site working as required.

The post holder will contribute actively to the conduct, coordination, and delivery of the Neurosciences Research Portfolio. Key responsibilities include:

Facilitating delivery of commercial and non-commercial research trials in collaboration with partner organisations.

Providing leadership to a dedicated research delivery team and supporting portfolio growth.

Ensuring high standards of care, safety, protocol compliance, and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a proactive and self-motivated senior research nurse with a keen interest in research to work within Neurosciences to provide leadership to the research teams delivering Stroke, Neurology and Neurosurgery clinical trials.

The postholder will have advanced knowledge of research delivery to ensure that appropriate quality, financial and clinical governance is embedded and play a key role in the development, management and implementation of our research delivery objectives. The postholder will be required to become an integrated member of the Neurosciences Research Team, acting as an ambassador for promoting research and best practice ensuring the best possible care for their patients.

The successful candidate will have a background in clinical research delivery. Experience in the fields of neurology/stroke/neurosurgery is highly desirable. The postholder will be responsible for oversight of the portfolio of studies, overseeing the staffing requirements for this, ensuring the research workforce is competent and has capacity to deliver both commercial and non-commercial research.

The post holder will be required to work alongside industry partners, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H) and colleagues in neighbouring establishments, attending regional and national meetings as required.

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of clinical

research within the Research and Innovation (R&I) department.

Additionally, where appropriate, they will provide professional, clinical,

managerial leadership and supervision for the research delivery team. In

conducted within the confines of ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

Guidelines for Research, EU directive, UK Governance Framework and

other relevant UK legislation pertaining to the conduct and delivery of

research.

The post holder will be instrumental in implementing team objectives to

enhance the performance and development of the Research

Nurses/Midwives, Allied Health Professional(AHPs), and Academy for

Healthcare Science (AHCS) registered and other research delivery staff.

They will act as a role model developing the research team, ensuring

effective management of the department. During exceptional times of

need, you will contribute to clinical service, as agreed with the Matron for

the Clinical Service Unit (CSU) and in line with the Trusts escalation

policy.
