Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Respiratory Physiologist to join the Clinical Physiology team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The role is full time Monday-Friday and based mainly at St James Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. There may be occasional requirement to support our community diagnostic centres at Armley and Beeston. The respiratory physiology team consists of Associate practitioners, Senior Physiologists, students and management. We support the wider MDT with the performance of simple and complex diagnostics and there is opportunity for continued career development.

In this dynamic clinical environment, you will be responsible for performing and interpreting a range of lung function tests , supporting community diagnostic centres and the sleep service with CPAP clinics.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional patient care with the autonomy to make appropriate clinical decisions. In addition, excellent organisational skills, team working and leadership are essential to this role.

Main duties of the job

As a Respiratory Physiologist you will play a vital role in delivering a range of diagnostic tests according to national standards. The candidate will be responsible for performing full lung function testing, walk tests, muscle function testing, capillary blood gases, sleep diagnostics and CPAP clinics. You should be familiar with and contribute to wider departmental service developments such as audit, innovation and governance procedures.

Your daily duties will be varied according to service demand but will be predominantly based in the respiratory function laboratories performing and interpreting a range of respiratory and sleep investigations on a wide range of patients. This may include inpatient testing as well as paediatrics. The ideal candidate will have experience of performing all respiratory investigation as listed.

This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, helping to maintain a positive and efficient service environment.

Seeks advice from more experienced staff members when/if required.

Communicates with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible care for patients by using negotiating, reassurance and persuasiveness skills.

Communicates information about routine respiratory investigations to patients and relatives/carers including children and those with learning and/or physical disabilities.

Calibrates and manipulates a wide range of technical equipment which processes, creates, updates and stores information.

Carries out a broad range of fundamental respiratory investigations and provides accurate and factual reports following analysis and interpretation of physiological data.
