We are delighted to provide this exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hardworking individuals to join the Cardio-Respiratory Clinical Service unit. The Cardio-Respiratory covers a number of ward areas at the Leeds General infirmary and at St James Hospital. We are looking for committed individuals to enhance and develop their skills within this positive and challenging environment. You will be contributing to the maintenance of an environment for the delivery of safe and effective care. We are looking for individuals that will be adaptable to changing there work environment and must be willing to provide cover at both sites. Post will be avaliable across a number of different ward areas, part time working 28.5hrs. These post will cover weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

This role is to provide a range of direct or indirect supervised non-clinical duties within a designated clinical area. The role will be supportive in keeping the hospital environment, safe, clean and tidy. You will be a central point of communication between the department and medical physics to ensure equipment is returned, and repaired, and or serviced in a timely manner. The duties of the role also include answering phones, cleaning equipment, setting up equipment under supervision, cleaning and making of beds, ordering maintaining stock levels and any other general non clinical duties required as well as being a point of communication to meet and greet patients, family or carers and provide family and carer support.

Job responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Support team members with appropriate activities.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the professional teams as required.
  • Liaise closely with ward manager to ensure ward/department need are met.
  • Clean and set up equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • The disposal of refuse in accordance with Trust policy and the cleaning of refuse holders.
  • The changing of curtains and blinds as necessary.
  • Work with the clinical team and supplies department to maintain effective materials management within the department.
  • Work with the clinical team and medical physics to maintain effective equipment management within the department.
  • The use of floor maintenance machines and other equipment as required.
  • The removal of rubbish and soiled (infected) linen and waste to designated areas in line with Trust Infection Prevention and Control Policy/Waste Policy.
  • Act on feedback given from any quality control system.
  • To carry out cleaning in alignment with the Trust procedures, for red (HPV/SI clean), amber (source isolation) and green (standard) cleaning requests. Maintain the cleanliness of all equipment used, aligned to role.
  • Using electronic systems to ensure stock is available on wards/departments for clinical teams.
  • The collection and returns of blood products via the blood tracking system and also the collection of specimens from wards and departments ensuring if there is protocol in place for chain of evidence that this documentation is completed.
  • To report any security matters which seem irregular and escalate to the relevant department.
  • To ensure equipment is in good working order and use it to maximum efficiency.
  • Reporting faults and breakdowns immediately to the nurse in charge
  • The moving & handling of (cumbersome and over 15kg) i.e. materials; patients (acutely ill and/or from A & E resus) goods and valuables, equipment, pumps, drip stands, bladder scanner, heart monitors and fluoroscopy equipment to and from appropriate wards and departments as required using appropriate manual handling equipment.
  • Staff must assess each moving and handling request and if in any doubt must seek guidance and support from line manager.
  • Collecting and delivering trolleys, wheelchairs, confidential medical records, pathology reports from all departments and clinics to all wards.
  • Collecting and delivering of drugs/medicines/specimens/food packs from areas to wards.
  • Provide equipment when deemed necessary to support crash calls.
