An
excellent opportunity has arisen to appoint a Clinical Perfusionist to join
our team at Leeds General Infirmary for 12 months.
Due
to continuous workforce planning we are looking to recruit an accredited
clinical Perfusionist to enhance our department and support the continued
progression of the cardiac surgical service in Leeds. We provide a diverse
range of cardiac surgical specialties from neonatal to adult patients,
including ECMO, intra-aortic balloon pumping and intra-operative cell
salvage. We perform approximately 1100 combined adult and paediatric cardiac
cases annually.

standards of healthcare. Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust is undergoing a
significant phase of regeneration, with the construction of two new hospitals
on the General Infirmary site.
The
successful candidate will be required to fully participate in the 24-hour
on-call service. The department offers a 37.5 hour, 4-day working week and
encourages personal development.
You
must be accredited by the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great
Britain and Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusion
Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland and fulfill the registration criteria
to date.
Main duties of the job
The
Clinical Perfusion Department at Leeds General Infirmary cover all aspects of
cardiopulmonary bypass and blood preservation in both adult and
paediatric cardiac surgery. Close
communication has been made with the intensive care team, to ensure the adult
and paediatric Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) programme develops
to offer a safe and sustainable service to the Yorkshire region. The
department is also responsible for cell salvage and point of care coagulation
testing on the LGI site.
The
post holder is responsible for the use of highly complex and valuable
perfusion equipment and must ensure that this equipment is in safe working
order and that they are appropriately trained prior to clinical use.
As
a Clinical Perfusionist should offer a comprehensive specialist clinical and
technical perfusion service during both routine and emergency procedures as a
vital member of the multidisciplinary team during cardiac surgery. In
addition to continued care for patients requiring mechanical circulatory
support in intensive care. As a Basic Grade Clinical Perfusionist offer
service provision for acute, vascular, trauma and obstetrics blood
procurement. The Basic Grade Clinical Perfusionist also participates in the
continued development and improvement of current practices and protocols as
well as any future research and expansion of perfusion services within Leeds
Teaching Hospitals Trust.
