The Clinical Physiology team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist/Clinical Scientist to lead the quality assurance program in our dynamic Electrophysiology service

This role is ideal for a Healthcare Scientist with a passion for arrhythmia management to join the largest cardiac centre in Yorkshire and one of the biggest Electrophysiology services in the country.

The successful candidate will have proven competencies to perform both simple and complex EP cases and be competent with a mapping system. As a specialist centre, Leeds performs over 850 electrophysiology cases a year. We will support you to gain clinical skills and competencies where necessary.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate maturity and have experience consistent to contribute fully to the improvement and advancement of the service, including supporting trainees and junior members in the service.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have responsibility for the quality assurance program within the EP service. This post is full time and we support flexible working and condensed hours to support a work life balance.

We have 8 Electrophysiologist including 2 Paediatric consultants and a constistent and growing Cardiac Physiologist/Cardiac Scientist team. The successful applicant will work closely with the other EP service & training lead, contributing to the development of the overall service and the achievement of departmental goals.

As a large tertiary centre there are 6 adult and 1 paediatric high spec cardiac catheter labs with 3 dedicated to CRM & EP. We perform a large range/volume of device implants as well as complex device clinics. If the applicant has skills in CRM management then would support the successful applicant maintaining and developing their skills in this area.

We provide a 24/7 out of hours on call service performing acute pacing implants and device interrogation. The successful applicant could participate in this on call service if they wished to do so.

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspect of own work, including the management of patients in your care.

Participates in rotational requirements within the cardio-respiratory department where required. On call and 24/7 provision of acute emergency services may be required (e.g., Cardiac Catheter Labs and/or Implantable Cardiac Devices). Demonstrating a high level of autonomy, often giving advice to medical staff with limited specialist knowledge thus directly influencing patient care outcomes.

Routinely undertakes assessment of both inpatients and outpatients prior to a range of investigations and uses own discretion in order to ensure the patient is suitable for the investigation.

Gives lead specialist advice during highly complex situations where analytical judgement is required to all other members of the multi-disciplinary team including consultant physicians.

Carries out all aspects of clinical work as approved by their Line Manager.

Lead Specialist in own clinical field. Implements change in own specialist area based on own experience and evidence-based practice.

Works within and towards national guidelines and directives, e.g., NICE guidelines.

Works as an autonomous practitioner within established departmental policies and those recognised by international organisations e.g., American Heart Association, Heart Rhythm Society - UK, Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology, and Academy for Healthcare Science

Communicates with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible care for patients, including: negotiating, reassurance, empathy, and persuasiveness.

Communicates sensitive information about routine and complex investigations to patients and relatives/carers including children and those with learning and/or physical disabilities.
