Job summary

Required to fill this new post youwill join a team of 6 Chest and 3 Head & Neck Radiologist (Some with shared responsibilities) within the Radiology and MIS CSU with a 80+ Consultant workforce. The post holders skills in Thoracic and Head & Neck Radiology and a range of Image guided interventions will complement and support the current demand on the service to deliver care to patients with Thoracic and Head & Neck Radiology needs at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust including

Achieving the best clinical outcomes with the resources available, supervision and care of patients, working with other staff and teams to ensure that waiting times are met, contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings.

To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within Thoracic and Head & Neck Radiology. We anticipate a significant impact of the roll-out of lung screening wef 2026 and setting up of a one-stop neck lump clinic and the post-holder will be part of the core team in supporting these services. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department and will be supported in developing further interests. Research and Education are priorities for the Trust and any new radiology consultant appointed will have the opportunity to explore furthering research and educational possibilities when in post if they wish.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will also be involved in the supporting the Community Diagnostic Hub and also in supporting the roll-out of AI in Radiology, particularly Chest. We require a range of diagnostic and related Interventional skills to complement those of the existing staff, in a post working across-site at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the workings at the proposed community diagnostic hub. The post holder will be based primarily at Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds although a cross-site presence is essential for delivering several aspects of this post. To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Radiology CSU and across the Trust.

Applicants should have established skills in Thoracic and Head & Neck Radiology and its related specialties including a range of image-guided interventions in both these subspecialties. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

This is a new post that has been developed to provide greater robustness and increase capacity within the Chest and Head & Neck Radiology teams in order to cope with increasing demand for a range of diagnostic and specialist interventional aspects of these services. The post-holder will work closely with the current members of these two teams delivering the core aspects of these services and also help provide additional capacity for ongoing increase in demands and some of the anticipated future increase for example the anticipated increase in activity for the chest team with the roll-out of lung screening and the plans to develop a one-stop neck lump clinic. The post-holder will also have an essential role in adding to the Teams capacity in supporting several MDTs including three cancer MDTs Lung, Head & Neck and Thyroid & Parathyroid and several benign Chest Meetings. The Chest and Head & Neck Radiology teams have an excellent record in supporting training and teaching within the department. The post-holder will allow the teams to offer additional capacity for training and teaching. The postholder will also be a part of the diagnostic on call rota group which currently has a shortfall (covered from within the group) and offer further flexibility and cross-cover for acute CT services.
