Job summary

Required to fill these 2 replacement posts within the anaesthetic department at St James Hospital.

You will participate in the undergraduate teaching program for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on specialty or clinical area basis. The appointee, with colleagues, will contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching program for StRs in Anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants should possess FRCA (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in general adult anaesthesia, with experience in thoracic, regional and upper GI Anaesthesia. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

In relation to this post, there is a requirement for increased anaesthetic capacity to deliver additional activity coupled with the recurrent dependence on locum consultant anaesthetists to deliver the existing service. The requirement to deliver the current service level agreements and additional elective sessions requires an increase in the number of anaesthetic consultants employed by the Trust.
