Job summary

Applications are invited for 2 posts of Consultant in Liver Transplant and Organ Retrieval at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant surgery team consists of 8 full time consultants who deliver services across Yorkshire and the North-West region.

The service currently delivers:

- Around 150 Adult & Paediatric Liver Transplantation with scope to do 175 transplants a year

- Around 200 Organ Retrievals

- Over 300 Liver Resections

- Active Live Donor Liver Transplant Program for Adult & Paediatric recipients within NHS

You will be expected to join other consultants within the specialty to provide and develop a comprehensive Adult Liver transplant and Organ retrieval (part of National Organ Retrieval Service) service to the Yorkshire and wider region. Liver Transplant and Organ retrieval experience is essential. Experience in Splitting Livers, Machine preservation and Live donor liver transplantation is desirable. Leeds Teaching Hospitals has a strong reputation in clinical management, teaching and research.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should possess FRCS (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in liver transplantation and its related specialties including organ retrieval and general surgery. Experience in machine perfusion technologies and ANRP is highly desirable. This role includes a general surgery component that involves treating benign biliary disease and various aspects of general surgery. The successful candidate is also expected to provide coverage for the National Organ Retrieval Service. Leeds Teaching Hospitals currently provides organ retrieval coverage for 39 weeks each year.

A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
