to fill this replacement post within the Congenital Cardiology Department at
the Leeds General Infirmary
We are looking for a dynamic individual
to join the congenital cardiology team based at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI)
as a consultant in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) with an interest in
heart failure and heart disease in pregnancy.
The congenital cardiac unit comprises the
ACHD, congenital cardiac surgery and paediatric cardiology services and is the
level 1 centre for the Yorkshire and Humber Congenital Cardiac Network, serving
a population of approximately 5.5 million in Yorkshire, Humberside and Northern
Trent. Services include all aspects of specialist tertiary care of congenital
cardiac patients (children and adults) with the exception of transplantation
and long-term mechanical cardiac assistance. The annual workload of the unit
includes over 400 cardiac operations (children and adults), approximately 700
catheterisations (diagnostic, therapeutic, and electrophysiology
studies/ablations) and over 10,000 outpatient consultations. Many other adult
services are co-located with the ACHD service at LGI, including maternity
services.
Main duties of the job
The
successful applicant should possess MB BS (or equivalent) and should be
included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of
interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment
regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist
Register.
Applicants should have
established skills in Congenital
Cardiology and
its related specialties including Adult Congenital heart disease (ACHD).
Applicants should also have undergone higher specialty training in ACHD and
have experience in managing both heart failure in ACHD and ACHD in pregnancy. A strong commitment to undergraduate
and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants
who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

an interest in both ACHD heart failure and heart disease in pregnancy within
the department of congenital cardiology at Leeds General Infirmary.
The department serves a population of approximately 5.5
million in Yorkshire, Humberside and Northern Trent. Services include all
aspects of specialist tertiary care of cardiac patients with the exception of
transplantation. The annual workload of the department includes over 10,000
outpatient consultations, more than 700 catheterisations per year, (diagnostic,
therapeutic, and electrophysiology studies/ablations), and approximately 400
congenital cardiac operations.
The congenital cardiology department has office space and
outpatient clinics situated in the Jubilee Building at the Leeds General
Infirmary. ACHD inpatients are cared for on the general adult cardiology and
cardiac surgery wards. There is a dedicated cardiac intensive care unit.
Cardiac catheterisation is delivered in a hybrid catheter lab that is used
exclusively for the congenital cardiac service.

To participate in multidisciplinary clinical governance
and audit meetings.
To support / deliver appropriate training for specialist
