This
is a new 8 PA post within the Clinical Haematology Department, based on the St
Jamess site of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals trust.
The Leukaemia
/MPD/MDS service and Red Cell teams in Leeds are well-developed, highly
specialised groups and can offer an exciting challenge for a new appointee. You will be joining a large and established
team delivering the full breadth of haematology services across Leeds and providing
second opinion across Yorkshire region and beyond. There is excellent
opportunity for research and good links to the University.

Main duties of the job
The
appointees role will be to further develop and support the established specialist
services in Leeds for Myeloid and Red Cell Disorders in Haematology. The main
clinical focus will be in Myeloid(Leukaemia) however the post holder will also have
significant duties within the MPD CLINIC and in the support of benign red cell
haematology. This will include Myeloid inpatient cover.
Applicants should have
established skills in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology. A strong commitment to undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants
who wish to work full time and those wishing to job share.

Job responsibilities
In relation to this post,
the appointee will specifically be helping to further develop and support
Myeloid services (Acute Leukaemias, Myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative
disorders). Myeloid team provide level 3 service to Leeds, Harrogate and
Huddersfield patients and work closely with bone marrow transplant team and
CAR-T Team. Myeloid service is a busy inpatient and outpatient service of
multiple clinical trials running which recruit locally and regionally. We also
support and advice to our regional colleagues on patient management and provide
region wide MDT service of patient with myeloid disorders. They will join a large
and established team delivering the full breadth of Haematology services across
Yorkshire and beyond with extensive research activity. We also provide TYA
services of myeloid malignancies for the region including East Yorkshire.
This is a new, substantive 8 PA
consultant post offering many opportunities for career development and
involvement in research and innovation. The title of Honorary Senior Lecturer
at Leeds University Medical School will also be offered (see below).
The appointee will
be based principally at St Jamess University Hospital with responsibilities as
a member of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Clinical and Laboratory
Haematology Consultant team providing an integrated pan-Leeds service. The post
duties will include inpatient care, outpatient clinic work and a shared-on call
commitment (approx. 1:11). The post-holder will be part of the Leeds Teaching
Hospitals NHS Trust haematology team, providing advisory and liaison
haematology services in their area of expertise. There may be occasional need
to visit other areas of the trust (e.g., Leeds General Infirmary and other
sites within the city) but no regular commitments occur out with the St Jamess
site.
We provide
inpatient high dose chemotherapy for patient in Leeds, Harrogate, Huddersfield,
and York (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) including newer immunotherapies. We
are also regional CAR-T service for eligible people with Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukaemia.
Myeloid services have
evolved over years, and we provide MDT services to Huddersfield, Bradford, and
Airedale NHS Trusts. We have dedicated Bone marrow transplant team attending
the MDT regarding transplant related decision. Leeds runs number of clinical
trials in Myeloid disorders and is recognised TAP Centre. We also run number of
commercial and academic clinical trials including phase 1 trials. Consultant
from Haematology malignancy diagnostic services (HMDS) are both part of our MDT
and some of the outpatient clinical activity and provide excellent, cutting age
and rapid diagnostic services for myeloid malignancies. We work closely both
with Leeds University and York University (HMRN). Leeds is MDS specialist
centre.
The post holder will work with
colleagues in the Myeloid team to help provide and support this large
established service. Consultant staffing currently is Dr Manish Jain, Dr Chun
Teh, Dr Richard Kelly (Myeloid and PNH), Dr Anjum Khan (Myeloid and transplant)
and Dr Quentin Hill (Red cell disorder). The service is also supported by
number of other consultants (including Dr Catherine Cargo (HMDS), Dr Marina
Karakantza (Transfusion), Dr Alesia Kahn (HMDS) and Dr Katja Kimberger (ALL
CAR-T).
The post holder will have some shared input
into benign General Haematology services, which may include hospital and GP
liaison, referral review / triage and provision of advice and guidance. The
post will also have some input in inpatient and outpatient red cell disorder
work.

- Full and specialist registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview). YOU MUST STATE YOUR GMC NUMBER IN YOUR APPLICATION.
- Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview.
