Job summary

Required to fill this 10 PA, replacement post for a Clinical Oncology Consultant, with a special interest in Thyroid and Head and Neck (H&N) cancers.

The successful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in Clinical Oncology. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with one other consultant clinical oncologist, Dr Michael Flatley, to provide regional specialist non-surgical managementof patients with thyroid cancer. This will include the administration of radioactive iodine. They will also be responsible for the prescription and supervision of the use of other radionuclide therapies (including mIBG & radiolabelled octreotide)in patients with neuroendocrine tumours.The successful applicant will be supported in obtaining an ARSAC licence. The post holder will attend a regional thyroid MDT every other week as well as weekly clinics and supervision of in-patients undergoing radionuclide therapy. They will also treat patients requiring radiotherapy for benign thyroid eye disease.

Furthermore, the post holder will also work within the Leeds and wider H&N non-surgical oncology team, to provide non-surgical oncology care for patients with H&N cancer from Leeds. Share attendance at the Leeds H&N MDT, contribute to the in-patient care of patients receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy for H&N cancer, work with a medical oncology colleague to provide SACT for patients with recurrent and metastatic H&N cancer from across West Yorkshire. The successful candidate will work alongside Dr Mehmet Sen and Dr Vani Ramasamy (Leeds and Mid Yorkshire), Dr Karen Dyker and Dr Kate Cardale (Bradford, Airedale and Calderdale) and Dr Robin Prestwich (York and Harrogate).
