This is a new, substantive 10 PA consultant post offering many
opportunities for career development and involvement in research and
innovation. The title of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Leeds University Medical
School will also be offered.
The post will offer many opportunities for career
development and involvement in research and innovation. The department has
substantial and long-standing research links with Leeds University and national
research groups supported by our academic chairs and excellent, dedicated
research facilities on site. The role will include responsibilities for
inpatients and outpatients and a shared-on call with 10 consultant colleagues.
There will be liaison with regional colleagues for whom the unit is a tertiary
referral centre. There is a very active clinical trials portfolio in all areas
of Haematology, to which the post holder will be an important addition.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work
full time or those wishing to job share.

Main duties of the job
The appointee would join a very established team
providing Auto / Allo transplantation and now CAR-T cell therapies for the
Yorkshire region and beyond. This post is designed to attract an individual
with interest in both haematological malignancies and cell therapy / transplantation.
They will be expected to play an integral role in the multidisciplinary groups
for transplant, cell therapy and relevant haematological cancers. There will be
some general and liaison haematology duties and an on-call commitment shared across
the clinical consultant group.
The successful
applicant should possess MRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent) and should be
included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of
interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations,
all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have
established skills in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology. A strong commitment to undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

In relation to this post,
the appointee will specifically be helping to further develop and provide a
region-wide cell therapy service including CAR-T cell therapy, supporting a
busy Myeloma academic unit and tertiary support for areas of the haematological
malignancy services based in Leeds. They will join a large and established team
delivering the full breadth of Haematology services across Yorkshire and beyond
with extensive research activity.

responsibilities as a member of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Clinical
and Laboratory Haematology Consultant team providing an integrated pan-Leeds
service. The post duties will include inpatient care, outpatient clinic work
and a shared-on call commitment (approx. 1:10). The post-holder will be part of
the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust haematology team, providing advisory and
liaison haematology services in their area of expertise. There may be
occasional need to visit other areas of the trust (e.g. Leeds General Infirmary
and other sites within the city) but no regular commitments occur out with the
St Jamess site.
The CAR-T service, which this post
is designed to support, is already fully functional at St Jamess at present,
the trust having been chosen in the NHS England second wave of centres to
deliver this therapy. The service lead, Dr Frances Seymour, supported by
colleagues, particularly in the Lymphoma team. In addition, we hope to recruit
for combined NHSBT/NHS post geared towards supporting cellular therapies
including CAR-T service. Leeds centre has already delivered CAR-T for Lymphoma
and B-ALL and with recent expansion of indications aiming to deliver increased
number of CAR-T therapies for next financial year. In addition, we participate
in clinical trials of CAR-T therapy in other disease sites. This post has been
developed to be an important part of this cell therapy team, supporting the
development of this therapy with current increased expansion of CAR-T therapy
indications and other cell therapies into the future.
The post holder will work with
colleagues in the Myeloma team to help provide and support this large
established service. Consultant staffing currently is Professor Gordon Cook
(Myeloma Lead), Dr Christopher Parrish with strong academic interest in Myeloma
and Dr Frances Seymour. With increased number of therapies there is unmet
clinical need to improve services and this post will be geared towards that.
The service is supported by number of other consultants including Prof Roger
Owen, Dr John Ashcroft, and Dr Sylvia Feyler.
The post holder will have some shared input
into benign General Haematology services, which may include outpatient clinics
and hospital and GP liaison, referral review / triage and provision of advice
and guidance.

- Full and specialist registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview). YOU MUST STATE YOUR GMC NUMBER ON YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO BE CONSIDERED.
