Job summary
We
are looking for an individual to fill this new, full time post within the Cellular
Pathology Department at the St Jamess University Hospital.
This post is within the
Pathology Clinical Support Unit to primarily support the provision of autopsy
pathology services to The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and the
region. LTHT have a contract with HM Coroner for the West Yorkshire Eastern
region to carry out approximately 900 adult coronial autopsies per annum and
aim to deliver a 6 day week service when required. At present three
pathologists are employed to carry out this work, and the candidate would join
this team. There
is a large postgraduate training programme in the region and strong links with
the academic department of pathology with the largest clinical academic training
programme in the country. There is the potential for
a proportion of the post to involve a research commitment to the University of
Leeds (UoL) provided adequate funding is secured.
Main duties of the job
The
successful applicant should possess FRCPath (or equivilant) and the Certificate
in Higher Autopsy Training (CHAT). They should be included on the Specialist
Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview if currently within
a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment
regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist
Register.
Applicants should have
established skills in autopsy pathology and demonstrable interest and experience
in research. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is
desirable.

In relation to this post, it is a full time (10 PA) consultant post within the

There is the potential for a proportion of the post (up to 40%)
to involve a research commitment to the
University of Leeds (UoL) provided adequate funding has been obtained (see
Appendix A). The appointee will have a demonstrable interest and success in medical
research.
Any candidate who is unable to work the full time for
personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification
