Job description
Job responsibilities
The current WYATT
neurology reorganisation programme is designed to improve access to services
across the entire region. Many patients in the Calderdale and Huddersfield
region have limited or no access to specialist MS and neuro-inflammatory
services are by default dealt with in the central hub in Leeds. At present approximately 200 (CALDERDALE 76
(8%), HUDDERSFIELD 89 (9%) N KIRKLEES 18 (2%)) patients on disease modifying
treatment are accepted by Leeds. Additionally,
a significant number are not able to access treatment resulting in health
inequality in the West Yorkshire region that the WYATT neurology reorganisation
group is seeking to remove. At present no patients with secondary progressive
MS outside Leeds and Bradford have access to Siponimod NICE TA 656 18 November
2020 due to the lack of capacity in the Leeds MS team to accept these referal. The post holder will be instrumental in
permitting the organisation to develop support for this service which cannot be
delivered at present.
This post will join the 3
other neurologists with an interest in MS and neuro inflammation to ensure
Leeds can continue to deliver the acute treatments to the local population and
future WYATT delivery plans for MS. The
post is for 10 programmed activities.
Neurology services in
Leeds and across the WYATT region are increasingly involved in the delivery of
acute care at the front door and with in-reach services and ambulatory pathways
to prevent admission. The post holder
will be expected to be involved in the continuing development of those pathways
with an in-reach session at St James (1PA) to patients requiring neurology
input and an acute admission avoidance clinic (1PA) per week. This is in line with LTHTs goals of
delivering the right care with the right time in the right place first time
