Required to fill this new, 6PA post
hosted by the Obstetric Department at the Leeds General Infirmary and St
Jamess University Hospital and working as part of the Yorkshire and Humber Maternal
Medicine Network.
This post has been developed as part of a national
strategy to develop maternal medicine networks and is hosted by Leeds Teaching
Hospitals. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of the
maternal medicine network across the region, alongside a Maternal Medicine Obstetrician,
Consultant Midwife, and wider midwifery team.
Leeds maternity services are a large tertiary centre
which provides regional obstetric services including fetal medicine, maternal medicine,
and placenta accreta service. The LGI is
co-located with a Level 3 surgical (including cardiac) NNU.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should hold Royal College
of Physicians FRCP or MRCP and should be on the Specialist
Register or within six months of CCT at
the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the
consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on
the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have additional
expert knowledge acquired over a significant period in Maternal Medicine and an
RCP credential in obstetric medicine (pre or post CCT) is desirable. Excellent communication and team working
skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service
development are essential.

Support
the West Yorkshire and Harrogate, South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw and Humber and
North Yorkshire Local Maternity and
Neonatal Systems (LMNS) and the associated Integrated Care Systems (ICS) in the
development and delivery of a Maternal Medicine Network
Ensure
systems are in place to allow women living in the networks catchment area with
significant medical problems to receive appropriate and timely high-quality
evidence-based specialist advice before and during pregnancy
Provide
clear clinical leadership on using innovative approaches and aligning tools and
levers in order to support the improvement of outcomes for patients and drive
up the quality of care
Working
in partnership with midwifery leadership
Leadership
(together with the lead obstetrician
and consultant midwife) to:
Provide
clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary Yorkshire and Humber Maternal
Medicine Network and Maternal Medicine Centre
To
Model and lead on multi-disciplinary working and cross boundary working.
Develop
a women-centred service, where women are at the heart of decision making with
womens choice being respected. Working with service users to evaluate the
service.
Establish and provide a
model of care that delivers all aspects of the care and treatment of women with
medical problems before, during, and after their pregnancy following the
National Service Specification
Adapt speciality pathways
developed by the Yorkshire and Humber Maternal Medicine Network Pathways team in accordance with the
expertise available in different sites within the network
Establish indications for transfer for delivery at Maternal
Medicine Centre.
Establish
a Yorkshire and Humber directory of specialists in all specialities caring for
women with complex medical problems in pregnancy
Develop
evidence-based guidelines across the network for the care of women with medical
problems in pregnancy
Provide
leadership to support the delivery and implementation of national programs of
work in Maternal Medicine across Yorkshire and Humber and to provide advice to
change programmes and any reconfigurations which will ensure the best health
outcomes for those using Yorkshire and Humbers Maternal Medicine services.
Provide
a source of clinical expertise and advice to providers and commissioners in the
related ICS relating to maternity and pre-pregnancy counselling services
Work
with colleagues in associated the ICS and LMS to support the quality assurance
process and support clinical leadership
Support
with counselling about risks and referral to abortion services
Work
with the regional and national Maternal Medicine leadership teams to develop
and implement systems and metrics to measure quality and clinical outcomes to support
improvement and monitor performance related to the work of the Yorkshire and
Humber Maternal Medicine Network
Ensure
that national commissioning guidance for Maternal Medicine Networks is
implemented and that appropriate systems are in place to drive improvements in
care and clinical standards
Develop
pathways for referrals and work with other relevant networks
including clinical networks for maternity services, perinatal mental health
networks, Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (ODNs) and Fetal Medicine
services, community and primary care to ensure the health needs of mother, baby
