Consultant Clinical Geneticist (in general
genetics and rare diseases). This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our team within the Clinical Genetics
Department based at Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS
Trust.
The Yorkshire Regional Genetics Service (YRGS) provides Clinical
Genetics and Genomics services to a diverse population of c.4 million across a
large, varied geographical area. The service comprises an experienced team of
Consultant Clinical Geneticists, Genetic Counsellors, Genomic Associates and
Genetic Research Nurses/Practitioners, as well as Specialty Trainees, Clinical
Fellows and trainee Genetic Counsellors, supported by a large clinical
administrative team. YRGS is a member of the North East & Yorkshire Genomic
Medicine Service (NEY GMS), and the service works closely with the Regional
Clinical Genetics services based in Newcastle and Sheffield.
YRGS
is based at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds, with the Central Lab of the
North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub (NEY GLH) situated at the nearby
St. Jamess University Hospital. Genetics clinics are held in the Leeds hospitals
and at hospitals across the region, including a satellite unit in Hull, and clinics
are also held virtually. In addition
to providing general and specialist genetics clinics, YRGS contributes to a
variety of multidisciplinary services including those with oncology, fetal
medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology and musculoskeletal services.
Main duties of the job
We
are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our forward-thinking
team. This replacement post will provide the successful
applicant the opportunity of working within an innovative and supportive team.
There will be opportunities and support to develop a specialist clinical
interest, and to contribute to a wide variety of local and regional projects
including research and innovation, service development and transformation, and the
education and training of medical students, doctors and other health professionals.
The
successful applicant should possess MRCP or MRCPCH (or equivalent) and should
be included on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT at the time
of interview if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment
regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist
Register.
Applicants should have
established skills in Clinical Genetics.
A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a
research interest is desirable.
