Job summary

We have an exciting development opportunity within our Childrens IBD Specialist nursing service to cover a 9 month maternity leave secondment. Working closely with families, consultants, local and regional services, and community partners to provide high quality patient care. The post holder will be responsible for managing and delivering care and support to a caseload of children aged 0-18 years who have IBD. The role includes teaching and supporting families to care for their children who require complex medications. Supporting Children with medication regimens. As well as participating in MDT clinics alongside the consultant gastroenterologist and specialist dietitian, the post holder will support the teams development and improvement of practice and guidelines.

Excellent organisational and communication skills are key elements for this position together with a genuine compassion and commitment to care for children and families who have a chronic illness.

A willingness to undertake on the job training and experience of teaching/audit and research is desirable. The nutrition, gastroenterology and surgical team will provide support and training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support children and families with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Working alongside other IBD clinical nurse specialists and the wider MDT to provide telephone and face to face support and advice. This involves managing your own case load, providing nurse led telephone clinics, face to face clinics, supporting children and their families through a new diagnosis, on-going treatment, flare up of symptoms plus more.

In order to provide a high level of ongoing care the post holder will attend regular meetings across a variety of MDTs to ensure their patients receive the appropriate care at the right time. It will be the post holders responsibility to manage their case load and to feedback any outcomes from meetings to the child and family.

About us

The post holder will work closely with the IBD CNS team and will work alongside the gastroenterologists, specialist dietitians, MDT coordinator and surgeons.

The IBD CNS team sit within the Childrens Nutrition and IBD CNS service and will work alongside the nutrition nurses.

Support will be provided by the CNS Team Leader, which includes preceptorship period, regular 1:1 meetings, team meetings, and appraisal for the upcoming year

There are weekly MDT teaching sessions which aid the growth and development of the team which in turn aids the development of the services the team provide.

A background in the systems we use at LTHT would be advantageous however support and induction will be provided.
