Are
you an enthusiastic, motivated Dietitian with a keen interest in Childrens
and Young Peoples Diabetes? Do you have a passion for supporting children
and their families and carers, working collaboratively with the
multidisciplinary team? We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic
Dietitians to join our Childrens Dietetic Team to take up this exciting
post, working 30 hours per week (0.8WTE) and 18.75h per week (0.5WTE). You
will be joining a compassionate, award winning and innovative diabetes team.
You will also work alongside the Band 7 and Band 5 diabetes dietitians.
The
Leeds Children and Young Peoples Diabetes Service provides medical, nursing,
dietetic and psychological support to children and young people (0-19 years
of age) living with diabetes.
As
one of the largest childrens diabetes services in the UK, our Diabetes
specialist team takes care of over 500 young patients, from diagnosis through
long-term follow-up to achieve the best long-term health outcomes.
We
support our patients, their families and school staff in achieving optimal
blood glucose management through blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate
counting, insulin dose adjustment and management of exercise, illness and
hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose). We use the latest in diabetes related
technology to help our patients and families in living with their diabetes.

Main duties of the job
You
will provide specialised dietetic care to children and young people with
diabetes and their families and carers at a local and regional level. This
will include our in-patient and out-patient services and our programme of
education. You will deliver clinical training for dietetic learners and other
staff. You will have opportunities to collaborate around service
improvements, for example audit, resource development, guidelines work and
advances in technology and digital solutions. You will support the day-to-day
running of the dietetic team.
We
hold consultant led clinics every day and nurse led appointments. An on-going
programme of education is offered throughout the year, including one-to-one
dietetic and psychology appointments, pump showcases and school workshop
sessions.
Where
possible, we aim to prevent hospital admissions by supporting children, young
people and families at home. We believe that our family-centred approach
helps children, young people and families living with diabetes feel supported
and empowered to optimally manage their health while also maintaining a good
quality of life.
You
will be based at St James University Hospital within the Childrens Diabetes
MDT. You will also work at the Leeds General Infirmary for inpatient work,
and to collaborate with the rest of the childrens dietetic team as needed.
Experience
of working in childrens dietetics and/or diabetes is desirable for this
post.

Childrens Dietetic Team is a large, friendly and supportive department of 36
staff, including Childrens Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants and Dietetic
Associate Practitioners, Special Feed Unit Technicians and Admin staff. We
are part of the wider Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Nutrition and
Dietetic Service and have close links with adults.
We
cover for colleagues within the multi-specialty Childrens dietetic team at
times of leave and will support you with appropriate training opportunities
to facilitate this.
