Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Clinical Educator to join our Medicine, Surgery and Specialty Services within the Childrens Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic nurse educator to shape the future of clinical excellence through education, innovation and workforce development.

As a Band 7 Clinical Educator, you will lead on the delivery of high-quality education, training and professional development for our clinical teams. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our workforce is skilled, competent and confident in delivering safe, effective and compassionate care across a wide range of clinical settings.

We are looking for a highly motivated registered nurse with:

Current NMC registration.

Substantial post-registration experience within medicine, surgery or a specialist clinical paediatric area.

Proven experience in clinical education and teaching.

Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.

A passion for developing others and driving excellence in clinical care.

A teaching or practice assessor qualification.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities include:

Education & Training:

Design, implement and evaluate innovative education programmes to support clinical competence and professional growth.

Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements across Medicine, Surgery and Specialty Services.

Facilitate simulation-based and bedside teaching tailored to staff learning needs.

Quality & Assurance:

Drive quality improvement and assurance initiatives, through education and evidence-based practice.

Contribute to clinical governance processes by supporting learning from incidents and audits.

Workforce Development:

Support the professional development of all clinical-facing nursing and healthcare staff.

Work collaboratively to promote workforce planning and retention.

Specialist Support:

Utilise and share specialist skills to meet the needs of patients with complex and specialised conditions.

Act as a clinical role model, demonstrating expert practice and supporting multidisciplinary teamwork.

Leadership:

Provide visible leadership, coaching and mentorship to develop confidence and capability within the nursing workforce.

Collaborate with matrons, ward leaders and senior nursing teams to align education priorities with service objectives.

The Leeds Childrens Hospital is one the UKs largest specialist childrens hospitals that provides acute tertiary services for children and young people across the Yorkshire and Humber region. We host 27 medical and surgical specialties across our 16 inpatient wards in addition to our Paediatric Critical Care Service, Childrens Medical and Surgical Day Case Unit, Childrens Assessment Unit and Childrens Outpatient Department. We are a specialist regional centre for liver and renal transplantation, complex childrens cancer treatment, neurosurgery, and congenital cardiac surgery.

The job holder will enable the development of clinical practice mentors, assessors and key trainers, providing supervision through on-site support and Trustwide continuous professional development activities. The post holder will be responsible for leading clinical education and associated resources in their designated clinical areas. The successful candidate will provide a high standard of education.

The job holder will support the assessment of the quality of clinical and other practice learning environments, and implement interventions for improvement. They will enhance the quality of care delivery from both the registered and unregistered workforce. The post holder may be line managing a junior clinical educator depending on the clinical service unit.
