Job summary
We
are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Band 7 Nurse Educator to lead
the Qualified in Specialty (QIS and QISF) programme within our Neonatal
Services. This pivotal role is central to supporting the development of our
neonatal nursing workforce, ensuring our teams are equipped with the
specialist skills, confidence, and knowledge to deliver outstanding care to
our babies and families.
As
the lead for these programmes, you will strategically plan, deliver and
evaluate high-quality education and development initiatives across our
neonatal units. You will play a key role in shaping our educational strategy,
fostering strong partnerships within the region, and enhancing our Trusts
reputation as a centre of excellence for neonatal education and training.
Main
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic
Programme Leadership:
Design,
plan and deliver the QIS QISF programmes, ensuring alignment with national
standards, workforce priorities and Trust objectives.
Facilitate
and delivery of programme.
Embed
theory into clinical practice through innovative teaching styles, such as
simulation.
Workforce
Planning and Retetention:
Work
collaboratively with the neonatal leadership and education teams to identify
workforce training needs, ensuring the programmes meet current and future
service requirements.
Brand
Engagement:
Promote
the hospital and it's neonatal education offering regionally and nationally.
Main duties of the job
Design,
plan, and deliver the Neonatal Foundation and Qualified in Specialty (QIS)
programmes, ensuring alignment with national standards, workforce priorities,
and Trust objectives.
Work
collaboratively with the neonatal leadership and education teams to identify
workforce training needs, ensuring the programmes meet current and future
service requirements.
Manage
programme funding and resources effectively, ensuring value for money and
sustainability of the programme.
Promote
the hospital and its neonatal education offering regionally and nationally,
supporting recruitment and retention through positive brand visibility.
Work
closely with regional education networks, Higher Education Institutions
(HEIs), and partner Trusts to ensure consistency and shared best practice.
Facilitate
engaging teaching sessions, simulation-based learning, and reflective
practice opportunities to support the integration of theory into clinical
practice.
Embed
simulation and evidence-based approaches to bridge theory and clinical care,
supporting nurses to develop competence and confidence.
Work
collaboratively with operational teams to organise and oversee clinical
placements, ensuring high-quality learning environments.
Support
ongoing professional development and retention through robust mentorship,
supervision, and career development pathways.

Leeds Childrens Hospital is one the UKs largest specialist childrens
hospitals that provides acute tertiary services for children and young people
across the Yorkshire and Humber region. We host 27 medical and surgical
specialties across our 16 inpatient wards in addition to our Paediatric
Critical Care Service, Childrens Medical and Surgical Day Case Unit,
Childrens Assessment Unit and Childrens Outpatient Department. We are a
specialist regional centre for liver and renal transplantation, complex childrens
cancer treatment, neurosurgery, and congenital cardiac surgery.

staff both registered and unregistered. The job holder will enable the
development of clinical practice mentors, assessors and key trainers,
providing supervision through on-site support and Trustwide continuous
professional development activities. The post holder will be responsible for
leading clinical education and associated resources in their designated
clinical areas. The successful candidate will provide a high standard of education.
The
job holder will support the assessment of the quality of clinical and other
practice learning environments, and implement interventions for improvement.
The job holder will support mentors and assessors and ensure clinical
professional development for preceptorship and other role developments. They
will enhance the quality of care delivery from both the registered and
unregistered workforce. The post holder may be line managing a junior
clinical educator depending on the clinical service unit.
