Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical Educator within the Education Team in the Children & Young Peoples (CYP) Haematology and Oncology unit at Leeds Childrens Hospital at Leeds General Infirmary.

The Childrens and Teenage Oncology and Haematology service incorporates a Principal Treatment Centre for Children, and for Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. We have a JACIE accredited Stem Cell Transplant Unit for Children's and Young People, which forms part of the West Yorkshire Bone Marrow Transplant Programme. We care for Children and Young People with a range of non-malignant haematological disorders; Leeds is a Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia and a Specialist Centre for Haemoglobinopathy.

This role covers an exciting portfolio, including:

Developing the chemotherapy education pathway

Mandatory and specialised skills training and support

Professional development pathways for our nursing workforce

Education and teaching on our foundation programme

Empowering the workforce

This role will work as part of the wider education team, as well as working clinically to shape education of the future.

The Leeds Childrens Hospital is one the UKs largest specialist childrens hospitals that provides acute tertiary services for children and young people across the Yorkshire and Humber region. We host 27 medical and surgical specialties across our 16 inpatient wards in addition to our Paediatric Critical Care Service, Childrens Medical and Surgical Day Case Unit, Childrens Assessment Unit and Childrens Outpatient Department. We are a specialist regional centre for liver and renal transplantation, complex childrens cancer treatment, neurosurgery, and congenital cardiac surgery.

The Jobholder will play an essential role supporting Nursing and Midwifery (including ODP) education by facilitating education, training and practice development within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The job holder will facilitate the development of clinical staff both registered and unregistered.

The job holder will support the assessment of the quality of clinical and other practice learning environments, and implement interventions for improvement. The job holder will support mentors / assessors and clinical professional development for preceptorship.

The job holder will support the development of clinical practice mentors and key trainers, providing supervision through on-site support and continuous professional development activities.

The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care.
